Convertible Top Maintenance

I have a 16 M235 and was wondering if anyone has done any maintenance on their tops such as lubricating all the joints. Although it is low milage, I would think that time alone would degrade the factory lubrication causing it to become harder to open and close. I'd be grateful for info on the process and suggested lubricants.

You might find maintenance instructions in the online repair manual. Good luck! https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/

Thanks, took a look but it doesn't really provide any lubrication info. I guess I'll have to just open it up and put a few drops of good lube in each joint.

What are you going to use for lube ?

When I was into Mercedes, there was a specific and pricey lubrication paste for the sunroof. My concern is any liquid maybe could dilute the product or design BMW uses for the pivots. Just guessing.

FWIW my 2004 E46 vert worked flawlessly right up until I sold it this June and I never did anything to the joints. That's 16 years and 180,000 miles.
