Used Oil Analysis and experience with the AFe Dry Panel Air Filter

I thought the group might find this interesting. I recently did a 5K mile used oil analysis and ran my AFe dry panel air filter the entire time. Although I've owned the filter since 2017, I've installed and uninstalled it a number of times over the years and it has about 20K miles on it.

The good news is that the filter appears to work fine. Teamed with the MPPK/M2 lower airbox (has a large opening in the front) you can hear a bit more diverter valve noise (I have the stock diverter). As noted, I've installed/uninstalled the filter a number of times. My biggest issue with the filter is that the motor sounds a bit strained and less smooth with the AFe filter. I also think it makes driving the 6MT smooth a bit more difficult in 1st and on shifts. I believe the issue is the extra flow and the MAF not liking it. It's never thrown a code.

My mods are the MPPK/M2 airbox, FTP charge pipe, Wagner Competition EVO I intercooler, HJS Euro 6 catted downpipe, Dinantronics Stage 2 piggyback, and the MP exhaust. I'm currently running a newer OEM paper air filter and much prefer it.

Nice, I just got my 9k mile report back with K&N panel and the numbers were excellent, TBN was 3.6.

Your 1-2 shifts suck because you probably still have the cdv. Get the e90 slave to replace yours. Ours are internal and can’t be removed.

Absolutely and I hate the thing, but the AFe filter causes wonkiness too. So does the Dinan Sport and the Sprint Booster. I've played around with these mods quite a few times, none of which remain on the car.

I'm of the opinion that the 6MT is very sensitive to certain mods and will cause trouble with shift smoothness and throttle modulation largely because of the CDV and also the fact that the DME adds a slight bit of throttle when you release the clutch. It's annoying as hell.

That's been my experience modding my car for the last 5 years.

After about 5500+RPM, that strained sound, does it sound like...a resonance noise, or like a vacuum sucking...nothing?

I'd say it's more of a vibration/harshness thing that's felt rather than heard.
