BM3 M2 Stage 0+ vs Stage 1 93

Started with VRSF CP and 5" HD FMIC
.
Added BM3 Today:

My plan was to run the highly touted Stage 0+ M2 tune. I set up my
battery charger and let it charge until it was about 70% charged. Set my Mac preferences to turn off the Firewall and loaded the Agent. Selected the OTS Maps and downloaded the M2 Stage 0+ map. Went to My Maps and saw the new map there and started the Flash. Took about 5 min and then it showed 98% Complete and it just froze up. After 10min I went back and ReFlashed the M2 tune again and this time it Completed. I waited 10 seconds and started the car.

Went for a drive and it was faster at least somewhat noticeable but to be honest I was very disappointed. My M235i was quick in stock form and now it was a little quicker but NO real WOW! factor.

I had planed to stick with this M2 Tune as my Top End Tune. After a 15 min drive I knew what I had to do. I drove back to my house and pulled in the driveway close enough to gain Wi-FI access. Plugged in the OBII and Flashed the Stage I 93 Octane. Only took like 90 seconds -- Really quick flash time.

As I pulled out of my neighborhood --- an about 5 min down the road I was like --WOW!!!! So SMOOTH, SO FAST & The Torque!! The gauges were updated in Stage 1 ( where Stage 0+ they were at a 400 hp /tq limited) and now in Stage 1 480/560 Gauge Limits. The car will push you back in the seat and the car feels so complete. You would never know that this was not an OEM Tune. I highly recommend this BM3 Tune (purchased from x-hp.com -- Thanks Mike!)

Really think this tune is simply amazing & pure --- VERY DIRECT AND LINEAR.
I just can't say it enough -- Tune that N55 today!!!

I look forward to checking out my logs & will share as I learn how the tune is running on my car.

Cheers!

Congrats! I'm currently running the same tune as you and am happy with the noticeable improvements. Will probably go FBO and Stage 2 next year (I drove stock for 3 years while on warranty so there is no rush LOL), but for now like you say it's a lot better!

The M2 tune is superior to stage 1. Maybe try clearing adaptations

Tune Transmission or NOT

With only Stage 1 and the M235i ZF8 already being very accurate and quick -- I am debating if I should Flash the BM3 ZF8
.
.
Anyone have Experience with this BM3 Transmission Flash??

Superior M2 Stage 0+

Yes - I could tell that above say 5K RPM the M2 Stage 0+ was very quick but
the Stage 1 93 low end torque for my DD suits my driving and provides that FUN Factor.

Not many places to DD (80-130mph).

Its not how fast you drive but how much fun you have getting there.
.
.
I could barely tell the difference between Stage 0+ and Stock M235i except above 5k where I am not able to spend a lot of time.

Thanks for your helpful feedback and good to hear that above 5K its a clear improvement. I want to do stage 0+ as well but don't want more torque at low end.

For me that is key too. Which is why I drive manual, changed the final drive ratio and focus on letting the fantastic engine rip up to high rpms

You definitely want to do the TCU flash stage 1 or 2 it's lifts Torque limits in 3 and 6 gear, increase clamping force, a little faster shifts. If you want to go a little crazy with the TCU try XHP flash 👍🏻

I have found where the M235i transmission being different that other N55's (Less than 320hp) has all 8 gears clamping force of 550 nm.

3rd and 6th NOT reduced in M235i.

Yes - I am going to Flash the BM3 ZF8 Tune and compare .

Op may like the BM3 tune because of his driving style - some people like torque

Thanks for sharing OP! Do you have any logs you could post? I'm experimenting with both tunes as well and settled on the stage 0+ M2 tune (for now). Would love to compare logs.

Stage 0+ -- Not the Torque Monster of Stage 1

The Stage 1 93 Octane on my M235i -- can spin MP4S tires so easily being there is a load of low end torque. Which makes it soooo much fun to drive.

However, with winter on the way -- I recently flashed back to Stage 0+.

WOW! What a difference. More Top end HP but less wheel spin.

I completed a datalog and found my Costco 93 did just fine. Timing was very consistent across cylinders with NO knocks. Target Boost was mostly in the 15.0 range but did have one peak at 17.4.

I will keep it on Stage 0+ until next Spring and then switch back to the Torque Monster.

Happy Halloween!

Sounds like the M2 / Stage 0+ tune is better for the track / road course? Is the power delivery more linear?

My Setup - BM3 Stage 1 93

With my Wagner Catted DP, VRSF 5" IC & Charge Pipe & Now adding FTP Turbo inlet .

Stage 0 : Feels quick above 5000 RPM with less wheel spin off the line as
compared to Stage 1.

Stage 1 : More Sound and much more wheel spin off the line. Definitely catching
wheel spin at lower speeds. Feels more fun to drive. I bet 0-100 mph
would be faster in Stage 0 due to less wheel spin off the line.
However at a 30mph rolling start -- Stage 1.
Gage Cluster on dash HP / Torque limit is adjusted

BOTH : Feel OEM quality smoothness -- just faster.

I do not dare go to Stage 2 -- I could never go back.

I just finally went catless dp and tried more maps. Stage 2 made almost no difference vs stage 1. 1/8th mile trap speed was 0.3mph faster. I also tried the stage 2 E30 map but my clutch didn't like that map and had slip on higher gears (my car is 6mt). I then switched to the M2 map and wow, by far the best map in my opinion. Most linear and factory like and pulls almost as hard. It's down about 0.3mph on the 1/8th mile vs stage 1 so not a big difference. My car also had K&N drop in filter, charge pipe, and intercooler.

So very small changes. Trash times, not trying to beat up the clutch too much, but car is consistent with it's traps.

I put the M2 map on last month and are mighty impressed just like you said. It is a great map if you like linear, high-reving driving styles rather than low end with lots of torque. I have much more fun having to wring out the power - at least for street driving..

I am running an LSD with the final drive ratio changed from 3.08 to 3.46 in my M235i. The M2 map fits perfectly with the character of the car. The final drive ratio of the original M2 was also 3.46 for 6 MT, btw. With the change I can fully experience and hear the engine closer to legal speed limits

In terms of linearity it feels almost naturally aspirated. Can only recommend to give it a try.

After I sort out my mods (ER Charge Pipe, ER TIC pipe, ER catless downpipe, and Wagner Tuning Competition 2 EVO IC) and address what I think is a minor exhaust leak, I'm going to try the M2 tune. I think it's more in line with what I prefer which is a more linear power delivery.
