Any special tools required for F22 rear Subframe removal?
Hey everyone,
Just got done putting new Polly mounts in my upper thrust arms, was thinking of doing the rear Diff inserts (not replacement mounts, ECSonly sells solid and I don't want those) as well as subframe bushings and lower control arm bushings. I have a hoist I can use and some good tools, will I run into anything needing a special bmw tool when dropping it? I looked at the driveshaft snd it's on what looks like a coller and not bolted in, i also plan to do the main upper diff bushing when the subframes down. I don't want to buy any crazy expensive tools to do this job or else I'll just skip it and compensate with some struts braces. Thanks for your help guys, Cars a 16 M235XI auto.

Yeah, I don't think you're going to find many subframe removers on this forum.
In my case, I'd rather write checks / push plastic than wrench on my fine BMW.

Yeah I hear you, I don't mind getting into the nitty gritty of taking it apart, just wish someone knew if I needed the tool or not, if I do I'm probably not going to do it, don't want to have a $500.00 tool that Id use once, thanks anlot

You're going to need a special tool to remove the axle shafts from the rear differential as well as a less common tool to undo the driveshaft to the rear differential.
You'll probably want a table jack to lower the entire rear subframe. It's a pretty sizable DIY job. I ended up paying a shop for this because I wouldn't be able to complete it within a day. |
