To me the M3 is more special than the M2. 4) I love the prior gen M2 so it's still on the list if I find something I like at a price I believe is respectable.

Besides not liking the design of G80, I was shocked how disappointing the car felt compared to my F80 in terms of driving dynamics. Very lazy inputs and auto can’t compare to DCT.
For daily driving in traffic, it’s definitely more comfortable. I would check out C8 Corvette, Mustang Dark Horse, Lexus RCF/LC500 or 911 if you have higher budget. |

I'm a bit biased here, and obviously unpopular opinion around here, but I actually think it looks incredible. It has such a road presence with its aggressive looks. And for all the internet hate it gets, I've gotten nothing but positive attention (and boy does it get a lot of attention) out on the street. When I park it, I always do a look back and can't help but snap pictures of it.
As for steering feel - there's a few things you can do to mitigate some of that. If you go with the comp model, you can get a CSL tune which improves steering response. Personally I have the 6MT model - and I ended up replacing the front control arm bushings with a monoball kit. The stock bushings are clad in rubber which gives it deflection - makes it more "comfortable" but also makes it more numb. The monoball conversion eliminates the rubber, giving you much more direct and responsive steering with more feedback as well. Yes it weighs a lot, but it's actually one of the lightest cars in its class. C63 and RS5 are both heavier. But the important thing is it doesn't FEEL heavy when you drive it. The driving dynamics are some of the best since the E46. The S58 is a gem of a motor and gives it a very naturally aspirated feel - the power builds progressively and predictably. The ZF transmission is excellent. Yes it lacks the drama of the DCT, but the tuning of it still makes it very impressive. And going back to the CSL tune, that livens up the shifts as well to almost a DCT level. That being said, I opted for the 6MT because I wanted that extra bit of control. Personally I'm not going out drag racing, so for me the 6MT was perfect - yet the 6MT will still push you back into your seat. Do you need a G80 in your life? I don't know.... but I did - and it's exceeded my expectations.

I'm hoping that maybe they'll do the competition in 6MT with the LCI. Probably a long shot but I can hope. Not sure how much bushing work I'd do while under warranty or spring work to lower the car. The steering the G80 was improved over the F80 but it's still not on the same planet as the E46 and E90.

Light bushing work or lowering on springs shouldn't have any impact on your warranty unless they claim that's the reason for whatever problems you might be having. Outside of an intake however, I haven't done any tuning mods - as that would certainly void the warranty.

Thanks! It's actually Oxford Green. Looks similar to BRG on an overcast day but when the sun's out it's quite different. It's also metallic vs. BRG which is flat.

And I wanted to be able to use my "fun" car with everyone. Date nights...my wife liked them but man the 997 is LOUD on concrete roads and by the time I would drive to downtown Houston and back....well....you feel a little beat up. That's ok when you're doing a driving day with the fellas. But on date night? Meh...not so fun. So no, you're not crazy. I just drove my first i4...M50i at the Ultimate Driving Experience this weekend. Having owned two Model 3's, and hearing the i4 being a "Model 3 built by BMW" I agree. Very good car, but still missing the emotion factor that EV's lack (even the good ones like Taycans). So yes, I'd say definitely go for a G80. You won't regret it. |

I was a convert. Two F80's (M3 and M3 CS) and I decided to get a G82. It's not a G80, but they drive the same, so here's the cliff notes: It's faster, handles better, steers sharper, has a stiffer chassis, it's hides its weight but not completely, it's still numb steering like the F80, it has more linear classic M3 delivery, and easier to drift or throttle steer, and it's nicer to sit in. I happen to think it's polarizing looks is more interesting.
Speaking of the looks, I get way more compliments in the G82 than I did in the F80 M3 CS. Sure, I also got some negative comments, especially online, but like I've said in another thread, I just give some of those those people a ride along at the track and turn those frowns upside down. Forget dark colors to hide the grill. Alpine White to offend the eyes of the haters! Obligatory pics:

Also biased as I finally made the jump in January of this year to a 2023 BGM G82 CX. Previously had a modified N54 powered E82. I drove many cars while owning the E82 for 15 years and the G platform was the one that made me pull out the checkbook. Cannot say enough positive things about the S58 or platform. Endless power, crisp handling despite the weight and when necessary an easy car to DD. I’ve been extremely happy.

There's some chatter at the moment that the next gen M3 will be offered with a gasoline engine...I dunno, too soon to tell. The current chassis is really good.
