M4 F83 vs M240i Vert for same money. What are you buying?

I've been trying to find a used low mileage m240i convertible for a few months now and noticed they have been really holding their value. I've also noticed that the M4 F83 is trending down and you can find a 2015/16 w/ 50k+ miles for close to the same price. Around 33-36k.

This is a second car for me as I'm looking to take it to work a few days a week on B Roads would love to hear opinions about how I should spend my money.

I understand the typical answers... m4 is a bigger car, s55 motor has the crank hub issue, M tax is expensive with m4 maintenance, M cars are beat on, pre LCI has older I drive than 2018 plus m240i, B58 with a tune is as fast as an m4 stock, no hard top convertible in the m240i, no heads up display in m240i, no DCT in m240i... I can keep going.

I just feel like it would be a waste to spend 33k on an m240 when 35k could get an m4.

What do you guys think? Ps first post but been doing a lot of reading.

If it isn't your DD and you can stomach the added maintenance costs (or even better DIY) I'd go for the M4 only because it's special. The M cars are still nearly double the price over here...

The smart and less stressful decision would be the 2 series though.

Sounds like you would be compromising by picking a car with higher mileage to hit that price point. I would figure out when some bigger maintenance items would be due as I assume you would have to spend more sooner on the M4 vs the M240i. Both great cars in my opinion.

Lots of F82 M4's for sale down here in SoCal. I chose my current 2017 M240i and don't regret it since...

-Cheaper price tag, lower insurance premium, no M-tax, easy to work on
-Has potential (added only HPFP, downpipe, and local 100 octane gas station to run stage 2+ consistently)
-Smaller/easier to get around and park in LA and other downtown cities
-Newer engine/lesser maintenance. Mine's at almost 90k miles. Aside from the normal items like oil changes, etc....the only issues have been the PCV membrane and exhaust clip.

Without any doubt, the M240i.

The maintenance cost has been reasonable and the reliability outstanding until now at 47K. I do DIY easy stuff.

I've seen some 2010-ish M5s with a V10 for downright cheap. It is only when things break that you will truly understand the value proposition that entails.
