M235i clutch sound question
Hello,
Recently bought a ‘14 m235i 6mt and noticed the clutch was really loud. The car passed PPI before sale and has records of a new clutch installed 5k miles ago. In doing some searches I also found fairly common posts regarding the clutch sound, but with no frame of reference I can’t tell if the sound in mine is normal for this car or not It also makes a scratching sound under acceleration but there’s no slippage whatsoever

Can you confirm if a lightweight flywheel or singlemass flywheel was installed ? That would cause more than "normal" chatter noise in neutral at idle. Does your chatter go away when in gear? If so , that's most likely cause for noise as you also state there is no slippage. For grinding noise, that may be either your hand brake cable hitting the driveshaft located near rear diff/axles just above drive shaft. The holding bracket breaks and cable vibrate and causes noises. You can also check to see if any part of your exhaust is rubbing on heat shields or frame.

It does go away in gear or with the clutch diseengaged, but there is still this scraping/scratchy noise during moderate to heavy acceleration in all gears. I'll check the cables but wouldnt that type of contact create a sound when the car is in motion at all, not just under power?

Lightened flywheels don't dampen noise very well, you'll hear gear rattle and chatter. Have you checked the e-brake cable bracket yet? It likes to break and the cables rub the driveline making noise too.

In the mean time, wouldn’t cable contact with the driveline cause the sound to happen whenever the car is in motion at all, not just under moderate+ acceleration?
