center console connection plate?

Greetings - first post here. We just picked up a 'new to us' 2015 228i. The center console has this plate to connect / charge / power something?

Any idea what this is? I originally thought it was added later but it sure looks like it's part of the console. If it is an add-on is there some type of iPhone adapter that could cradle / power the phone instead of using these connections?

Might want to just google S6NSA Convenience phone, expanded Smartphone and see if any cradle works with your phone.
