winter tire and offset
Good day, I’m in the market for winter tires, I’m looking for used OEM rims for my 2014 M235i, what other BMW cars will fit.
I don’t mind going with 17” like Tire rack recommends but what offset do I need? Also does the aspect ratio have to be exact? I guess the Speedo may be off slightly, is that the only drawback? Thanks |

Tire Rack usually has pretty good recommendations, and those in your screenshot look appropriate for winters. Lots of people run 17s, brake clearance can be an issue but I would expect them to take that into account. Likewise with offset. Factory 225/45 17s are on 7.5" ET43 wheels. Factory 225/40 18s are on 7.5" ET 45 wheels. (assuming the 235 is the same as the 240). If you might like to go with wider tires on those rims in the future ET40 is pretty much optimal for square fitment.
Edit: You can't go with wider than 225s on the 7.5" rims, but you can go up to 245 with 8" ones. Last edited by Kernel Kurtz; 01-13-2023 at 01:04 PM.. |

Decide why you need winter tires before you buy anything. If it's city type and cold driving or driving up mostly plowed roads then you can easily stay at OEM sizes. If you are going to be driving in deep snow or unplowed roads then the recommendation to go smaller and narrower might be good for you (the alternate size). I just went with a square set of 18x8 from TireRack with Blizzaks and am happy so far.
