Ordered a 2021 M240i and it’s in production, estimated time of arrival?

Trying to figure out when to sell my Audi. Given the current stage of production, anyone have experience with when I should expect it to arrive at the dealer? (The next two stages are Quality Check followed by Final Assembly.)

Well, the last time I ordered I put my 328i up for sale once my 228i was on the boat, since it took 6-8 weeks to ship to California. I think I went 2 weeks without a car (had a rental). Depends on where you are I guess.

Oh, did the boat go all the way to a west coast port or did they truck it in from the east coast?

Both times I've ordered, the cars have been shipped directly to Oxnard California and then trucked up to the Bay area where I live. But yeah, the boat went through the Panama Canal and then onto the west coast.

I'm still waiting to get a production number ...hoping I'll hear some news this month. *sigh*

Based on my experience in 2017: It will be on a ship around 8/15 (8/22 if you're unlucky). Roughly 2 weeks after that it will arrive at a US port on the mid-Atlantic or gulf coast (not sure where your car would come in). Probably about 1-2 weeks to clear customs and make it's way to your dealer. Then a couple days of prep at the dealership before it's ready for you to pickup.

That puts you at a window in the mid-to-late September timeframe. Week of 9/14 if all goes smoothly, a week or more later if there's a delay somewhere along the line.

Of course this is pure speculation, but let me know how I did once it arrives!

I will, thanks! It left the factory yesterday so your timetable looks good. Geez, I didn’t realize it would take so long to clear customs.

Hey elliswyatt, I see you got your car. How was my estimate? When did you take delivery?

Oh, that was you. I just replied to your other posting. Man, you were spot on. The car arrived on 9/16 and I took delivery on 9/18. As luck would have it, I took delivery on the day before I had to leave town for nine days. I thought about the car the whole time I was gone. Fortunately, my wife left town with me so I didn't have to handle the inevitable question, "Which did you miss more, me or your new car?"

I just put in my order for an M240 middle of last week. How long did it take for you to secure a production number? My salesman told me he was expecting one yesterday or today but no luck.

It seems like it was only a few days. It might have been as much as one week but probably not more than that.

Okay, I checked my email record and the dealer confirmed the allocation on 7/11 and I received the production number on 7/15. Good luck!

Man what a sweet turnaround. Mine's been in the order bank since the last week of September.

Mine was in the order bank for about 2 months (July 15 -> mid August); finally got an October week 42 production date. At the moment, production has completed and it's been assigned a carrier. So hopefully getting close to being put on a ship.

July - August is only a month xD. Hopefully, that means I'll be getting my number here in the next week or two. Would really like to get rid of my car (staying at my parents and taking full advantage of WFH) cause that payment and insurance premium could be better off allocated. But can't really do that with no delivery time frame in mind.

So it looks like it only took 2-3 days to build the car. Mine is scheduled to be built on week 44. Mine is a M240i coupe.

I see you are in San Ramon. I am in Alameda. Which dealer did you purchase your vehicle through?

My M240i was week 41 production and sitting at Port for the last 3 days. Its coming to Southern California so we will likely be on the same boat. Post your boat details once received.

Will do! Sales guy said he'd tell me the ship name once it's on there.

Mine sailed on the Hoegh Trotter. If yours is on a Hoegh vessel, you can plug in your VIN to get sailing information. https://www.hoeghautoliners.com/my-cargo
