JB4 Install question!

Hello,

I am currently installing the JB4 ON MY 2017 m240 6spd. the install guide from Burger is for a 340i. I am stuck where I need to feed the BMW Cable through the rubber plug in the firewall.

Does anyone know where this plug is?? I'm looking in the cowl behind the clutch slave and don't see anywhere to go through the firewall.

Help!

Mine is a 2016, so am hoping they are the same. Hole is behind the brake booster in the picture, which in my setup has the JB4 line and a meth line that is pink. There is also a rubber grommet in the hole that I got from HF, but you really don't need it.

One tip I should mention is use a piece of duct tape on the plug to hold it before popping it out. Otherwise it is easy to have it fall and be gone forever. Not really a big deal, but it is nice to have in case you want to ever take the JB4 out and put the plug back in.

I have the manual as well and couldn't just pull the rubber plug out. I had to pierce it a few times with a pick then straighten out a wire hanger and tape the cable to the hanger and push it through. Annoying but it worked fine.

I had the same issue last night on my 2018 MT M240. I've done my fair share of research and every video I saw was based on an AT install which is great because that hole in the fw is free to do whatever you'd like. Plus inside, you don't have to take the panel down because the spot for a clutch pedal is open.

Now, as far as my installation experience, I'm not thrilled at all. Trying to pull the grommet out with the clutch hose was impossible, I was able to push it into the fw but then when I went inside the car, there was a very thick rubber foam mat in the way and only 3/4 inch of hose exposed that connects to the back of the clutch pedal. Needless to say, that didn't happen. So I now have the grommet stuck inside the fw.

My work around - I noticed 2, ~ 3/8inch holes alittle below that hose (inside) thats part of the main wiring harness running through the fw. I took a skinny flat head and pierced through and that's how I found out it was the main harness (was not happy at all) but found this to be the easiest way to get the OBD cable through. I had to made the hole a little larger but was finally able to get the connector through. I will take some pictures today and post.

My biggest concern is getting that grommet back into place so I don't slice the hose. so I have to get long thing needle nose pliers and see if that will allow me to get it back into place.

Hope this helps my fellow 6MT drivers!

I have a manual as well. I ended up using the grommet to the right of the one that the instructions tell you. I believe it's where the hood cable runs through. Took me 5min to run it through vs the 2hrs I tried on the other.

I have the auto and just pushed the rubber plug in from the engine compartment side and it landed on my floor. From what I understand, this hole is where the clutch cable comes through in the manual.

There is no clutch cable in a manual BMW, the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder is mounted through the firewall with no grommeted hole needed for the mechanism.

Lost the rubber plug that was on the firewall. Does anyone know what the size of the blind rubber plug was?
