Welcome to the club, and congrats! Went from a 335i EWG n55 to 17 m240i as well. Definitely get yourself a flex fuel kit, and throw it in with a stage 2 fuel pump along with a downpipe and enjoy running e40/e50

Thanks buddy.
I picked up a tu for super super cheap that I'm gonna run for now. Funds are way tighter for mods this time around lol so a dorch is gonna have to wait. I have a downpipe already. Reused my xhp account and have a bootmod3 account already. Had to get a bench unlock on the dme unfortunately but just got it back yesterday from ptf.. I will pick up an intake, turbo inlet and may make my original Valvetronic designs axle back work (dunno yet) and at some point will grab a flex fuel kit. Ptf/bm3 is about to release a new revised app and I'll likely do ot all then for youtube etc.

Only bad thing is I believe this car has a pcv issue.. its making a noise that I can only describe as a whiring and these random pops that sound like popcorn around the pcv cap/hpfp area.. its not really smoking but I'm not driving it or letting it idle long so idk but I'm gonna try doing the diaphragm to see etc.

Excited to get going on it though.

Nice yeah I was able to reuse my xhp app as well which was nice. I actually just replaced the TU pump with a stage 2 pump that is sold in the Facebook groups similar to the ds2 but for $1100 instead of $1700 (no fuel rail included though). The pcv is a known issue, I haven’t heard the sounds you’re describing though. Definitely keep an extra one on hand or go with the pcv delete kit.

Looking forward to seeing the build. I assume you’ll be posting it on YouTube similar to the 335?

Yeah the sounds are weird and completely new to me. Only thing I can think of is either it's the damn hpfp which I'm gonna replace anyway or that diaphragm is damaged in a weird way etc.
Guess I'm gonna find out soon 😆

I'm gonna replace the cap and diaphragm and will likely go with some type of delete later down the road. Trying to do all of thise and be budget minded is rough lol.

The plan is to do more than I did with the 335 on youtube. I regret not being more detailed and doing more content so I would like to just do more this time.

I'm in South NJ - maybe see you around sometime.

I've had my 2017 from day 1 - and just crossed 80k - no issues so far.

Why not?!
Good luck.

I actually traded my M240i 2017 for a 2018 M140i, so I can give you an update.
Exterior wise, the M140i and M240i are a bit different between pre-lci and LCI so I won't go into that. The only thing I will say is that the LCI tail lights and far better looking on the LCI vs pre-LCI.

When it comes to the interior, you get the updated cluster with oil temp. The updated cluster doesn't actually give you much more information, only larger digital speed & oil temp.

You also get an updated dash which actually looks more modern imo. But the biggest difference that it's really talked about is the updated plastics on the front dash. This definitely makes the car look a lot more expensive.

No... At this point, what more can be added?

Well, I'm curious about the water pumps on the B58. Seems they were prone to failure with at least earlier versions of N55s and around $1000 or more to replace with the thermostat. There is a virtual maze of coolant lines running around to the radiator and intercoolers, too, with a known propensity to lose at least 'some' coolant with an unidentified (as far as I can tell from reading) source for the loss.

What about the charge pipes? I'm looking for a 'reliable BMW', which may no longer exist.

Charge pipe is good to like 600hp or something
Water pump isn't a big deal.. most of the coolant loss is due to the overflow cap being bad. Easy fix.

B58s have been around for more than 10 years now (including the EU) and most problems have cropped up. I wouldn't necessarily say it's as reliable as a naturally aspirated engine but pretty close. 2 series are late to the party with this engine, not early adopters.
Mechanical water pump for the engine and electric for the charge air system.

Charge pipe is a different design and likely improved materials as well.

Would you say that most B58 issues were addressed during the 340i/440i years and updated for the 240i? It seems that BMW did something similar with the 135i/335i before introducing M235i - including apparently a forged crankshaft that other x35 models may not have had. Same with the water (coolant) pump. Maybe not for the charge pipe or the coolant return hose (a simple and easy repair or proactive replacement).

The 240 340 and 440 are the same for the f series.
