I guess it depends on your tolerance I can't idle it with the windows down and not hate it, but since it is no longer daily driver I can live with it.

On the other hand, some people love that smell of unburned gas and all that smog )

I'm clatless on my 228i n20. As long as I'm moving the smell isn't detectable. Waiting at lights does allow for some exhaust to sneak up. Worth it imo

No data on high flow cats, sorry. I will offer that the sound is quite nice. It's the slightest louder while cruising, but it only really gets noticable when you get in the throttle. I have more aggressive burbles in sport mode, so if I wanna pop and bang less I keep her in comfort!

Bm3 let's you tune it in aggression and duration. In comfort it's tasteful. In sport it sounds like I'm rolling a trash can down the street without sounding like gunshots. Haha. If you want gunshots you'll need the AGG (aggressive) map and definitely decat

It's really not that bad. I was worried about it too. Like others have said you don't notice it unless you're idling with the windows down in like a garage or something. While driving, even waiting at stoplights, I almost never smell anything.
