Safety of mods 228i
I recently decided to look into making modifications to my 2015 228i and so far have upgraded the intake and have flashed a stage 1 91 oct bootmod3 tune with hopes of flashing a stage 2 after the downpipe. I have a catless downpipe ready for install and just wanted to pick yalls brains on the safety of these tunes as I am not trying to blow up my daily driver.

you'll need an intercooler and charge pipe as well for the stage 2.
We offer package deals for intercoolers and charge pipe that'll save you some money when bought together. as long as you are running the recommended map for your fueling and mods, it's safe.

Driven the car in this state for over 40k miles, no problems whatsoever just kept with regular maintenance. I flashed stage 2 way before I did the charge pipe and intercooler, and honestly depending on your area you can definitely get away without it at least to start. I'd put on your DP and flash Stage 2, just make sure to keep an eye on your logs and don't push the car 110% until you have that FMIC. |

I have a 14' 228i and I'm concerned about the safety as well considering my production date is before the timing chain fix. I haven't seen any slack in it so far but I'm worried a tune might advance any hidden issues. Thoughts?

'15 228i here with Stage2.
The only think I "broke" was the charge pipe and DV, and that was before mounting the FMIC. So, for the safety of the car follow all the instructions: FMIC, pipes, maintenance and take care of fuel quality. These cars run really hot, so I advise more frequent oil changes than supposed. NOTE: Probably my DV got "cooked" 'cause I was running it hard without the FMIC. |

Its safe. Flash and enjoy (Make sure you have Down pipe and Charge pipes) for stage 2. My n20/6 was custom ethanol tuned on methanol injection. Far exceeding OTS stage 2 91. Rest easy. BM3 is very safe as they have thousands upon thousands of clients that trial and error tunes where they make adjustments when needed. Theres enough R&D for you to sleep well at night

Well, I recommend changing every 5,000 on regular gasoline, if running e-85 you want to run it down to 3,000. Since I assume you are running standard 91/93 5,000 is fine. Oil breaks down over time, Most oil gets to the end of its life around then. The longer you run your oil the thicker it gets, A 5w-30 at 1,000 miles will not be the same viscosity of a 5w-30 at 8,000. It picks up deposits, gets thicker and heavier because of it.
TBN (Total Base Number) measures how much base (as in base vs. acid) additive is in the oil to offset the effects of acids coming into the oil from combustion and other sources. When you first start using the oil, the TBN tends to drop sharply. Then it levels out and drops more slowly after that. The lower the TBN reading, the less active additive the oil has left. When there is less additive there is less protection, combined with the now heavier dirtier oil because of the interval your oil isn't protecting much anymore. Its best to do 5,000 interval in order to catch the oil before the TBN number drops to low.
