Stuttering While Accelerating

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello All,

I own a BMW 220D XDRIVE 2016. Recently I have started to feel suffering while accelerating. This only happens near motorway speeds - anything 50mph or above. There is no engine warning light or any codes.

I took it to a BMW specialist and they have performed a gearbox oil change however the problem still remains. I have around 87,000 miles on the clock and before taking it back and costing me another fortune I would like to see if anyone has any ideas? They can be the smallest weirdest idea but i’m open to anything as the most likely solution has already been tried and failed.

When I accelerate and feel the stuttering I slowly come back off the accelerator as if I try to reaccelerate the same thing will happen and after about 20 seconds it then usually is alright to accelerate.

It sounds silly to say but it almost feels as if the tyres are slipping which is impossible as I just had new ones put on and it happens both in wet and dry conditions the same amount.

Everyone I have asked is confused and has no clue so if anyone has had a similar issue or any idea it would be great if you could reply and let me know before I destroy my wallet anymore lol.

TIA,

Ben C

Sounds like the transfer case is on its way out.

I wouldn't jump straight to that conclusion, but it's not out of the question.

Are there any fault codes stored in the DME? What about any of the other modules? Any leaks from the t-case or transmission? Does it only happen at a specific speed, RPM range, or load?

If everything else is ok, the transfer case can be diagnosed by disabling it electronically, which forces the car to only drive the rear wheels. If the problem goes away when you do this, then it's the transfer case.
