PA4 Staggered alternative to 245/35R18

I have the factory staggered 18 inch wheels and after driving in snow once on 17 inch all-seasons last winter have decided that I want to put winter tires on my OEM wheels (and then buy new wheels for the summer). Since I expect to see snow less than 1x/month I am going to buy the Alpin PA4. However as most know the PA4 does not come in a 245/35R18.

Since 99% of my driving is simply cold (30 to 60 degrees) I want to keep the staggered setup and not go square.

Is anyone running a different size than factory on 18s in a PA4 or am I stuck between running square PA4 or switching to the Pirelli Sottozero at $600+ a tire?

Lots of choice in 245/40R18. If you must do staggered maybe do 225/45 in the front and 245/40 in the back? They should fit no problem on factory wheels. Will throw your speedo out by a bit.

I have run the PA4s in 245/40 in the rear for several winters. Fronts are 225/40. I had no problems and like how the tire feels for daily driving. Wear and increased noise after 15k or 2 seasons are the major downsides.

The 245/40 was on the OEM 8 inch for a while. I moved to an 8.5 wheel later to help with increased wear in the center of the tire. That set up also works fine.

Yes, looks like the OPs car is a manual and thus RWD, so 40s at both ends should work fine too.

Interesting! Michelin may have discontinued that size. Two 245/40 options are available at Tirerack.

Costco (here in Canada) lists them online as well, but they show as out of stock.

I have a 2014 228i with 18" wheels, can I put 245/35/18 tires on all 4 wheels without any problems?
