seat twist

hey guys!

I have a 2016 M235i and my passenger seat is twisting when I try to move the seat bottom forward or backwards. The right side moves perfectly fine, but the left side closest to the driver does not want to move at all. I have looked all over and can't find any Youtube videos or another thread on how to fix this.

Any help would be great!!

This video may not be relevant to you as it is an older model but just watching it made me feel ill.

This is one of those things that looks like it could end up being a complete cluster**** if you try to do it yourself.

You know the motor is working since one side is moving. Its either the cable from the motor to the side not moving, the gear that the cable turns on that side, or you simply dropped something hard in the track.

I'd try and look real good down that track to see if anything fell in it and you can get it out before you do anything else. And if you do take the seat out, check the track better before you start taking anything apart. Even if the cable or gear are the problem, I bet whatever broke did because of a jam in the track anyway.

After you get it fixed, get one of these even if you don't find anything jammed in there!

Unfortunately there are instances of a broken seat base causing this in various 2,3 & 4-series BMWs (although there could be other causes, too). Typically caused by the seat being motored downwards when something is under the the seat pan, breaking it.

Dang, well some women dropped a box of face concealer under my seat that was causing it to bind. It broke the center plastic crossbar, but as of now actually works fine, well fine enough. Sort of relieved, but also sort of pissed. mostly relieved.
