The Real Power Output for M240?
Hey Folks,
I've read through a few of the threads on the B58 power output and tuning. Do the results seem pretty consistent across the board that the real output is somewhere around 330 HP to the rear wheels for the M240? My apologies if I'm rehashing an already covered topic. I'm wondering is the gap between the M240 and M2 is really as large as the marketing numbers indicate. I drove both cars and they seemed fairly close in a straight line...but of course I'm no expert:-) Regards, John |

No, really I am absolutely interested in this number myself as I can't really understand the mystery here. Check my scenario:
My friend owns a ~4000 lbs 2020 M340i xDrive which does 0-60 in 4.0 seconds. That car is factory rated at 382hp. Dragy. I do the same in my M240i xDrive convertible (~3980 lbs), proven by Dragy. On the BMW website I should be doing 0-60 in 4.4 secs I do it as fast as him while my car is factory rated at 335hp with the same weight. Is my Dragy broken? Just pumping my ego? (Please, the above example is complete idiot play and not scientifically measured at all) What am I missing here? |

There are notes the B58 is actually underated, but absent a Dyno you're just guessing. M2 and M240 are two different beasts. M240 will actually out-accelerate the M2 for a short while, with the M2 overtaking the M240 on the top end. Engines and ECU programming is slightly different. That said, for a few bucks more and some easy mods, the M240 can outperform an "stock" M2. All things being equal, mod the M2 and it retakes the lead, lol. Chasing numbers is always a bad thing, driver error will remove almost any gains imagined, or realized through modding.

Back in my N54 days, I remember seeing bone stock N54s on the same dyno in similar conditions varying by 20+ WHP. Maybe some of the B58s are hotter than others also.

That is separate from the issue of the dyno itself. My experience, for example, is that Dynojets produce noticeably bigger numbers than do Dyno Dynamics or Dynapaks. The operator can have something to do with the results, too.

hi guys!
I took my m240i LCI II 2020 to the dynamometer as soon as I completed the first 2000km of the unit and then as soon as I installed a downpipe and did the engine and transmission reprogramming Bootmod3. This is the first engine dyno output (320 whp): https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1Q...06Pi7wuJBuicLC and this is the second dyno output second run already as stage 2 (390 whp): http://photos.google.com/photo/AF1Qi...egrT6Z4IT84z2U this is my car: http://photos.google.com/photo/AF1Qi...hayfNmTMZTwAC7 |
