M235i Vanos Broken
I've recently started hearing this noise in my M235i, at about 3500-4000rpm itll make this sort of metallic grinding noise, it happens almost every time when I'm in manual mode and the car is fully warmed up. My car is also at 82k miles if that means anything.
I'm almost positive it's the VANOS but I wanna do some online research before I take it anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas? Here is a video I took: It happens twice in the video, you have to listen closely |

tbh it sounds more like a resonance vibration than grinding. that's also probably due to the video and not hearing it in person. If the house doesn't recreate when parked it might be speed related?

You get what I mean? So if it pop it into manual or manual sport and just slowly accelerate and let the rpm's ride to about 3500, that weird metallic grinding noise ocurs |

I believe it would be a rattle related to a loose exhaust piece/shield (as others have said) as no codes we're shown. I'm at 50k on mine & already had a slightly scary loud exhaust rattle @ a cold start up but it's just that pin that get's worn from opening up the 2nd exhaust pipe. Cheers & hope it's not a Vanos component!
