B58 Advice

New to the B58 platform. Traded in my MK7 Golf R for a '17 M240i with only 7k miles. Super stoked to finally own a BMW. Super impressed with the stock performance on this beast! I was debating just a down pipe and JB4 would be enough but I much rather have an actual ECU/TCU tune. Only thing holding me back is my CPO warranty that's good until 7/2022. Have any of you tuned folks had any luck with warranty work? Even though the dealership told me they were mod and tune friendly, I still don't believe them

Depends on the dealer. Some are super strict and others don't care. If you're concerned about warranty issues go with Dinan as if anything goes wrong BMW NA and Dinan will cover it.

I recently took my car to the dealer to have some warranty work done on the headlight. I have been using Bootmod3 for some time and before taking it in, I re-flashed and re-locked to stock. Unfortunately, the latest version of ISTA (4.24.x) automatically flags cars that have had flash tunes. My SA called me and mentioned it and basically told me that my power train warranty was most likely void. However, the rest of my CPO warranty unrelated to power train was still valid and hence my headlight repair was still covered. He also mentioned that if something does go wrong with the power train in the future, he'd try and fight for me if the issue was clearly not caused by the tune.

I went Dinan Stage 1, mid pipe, and CF Intake through my bmw dealer. Substantial boost in performance, safe, and warrantied. Sitting around 380 HP and 430lb/ft torque. 0-60 is 3.7 and 1/4 mile is 12.06. That was enough for me. Rarely get to use all the power anyway. Launch control on the X drive with that is silly. I had one issue with the Stage one, and Dinan worked with dealer to remedy under both warranties. I'm at 90K miles on my '17 and she's still going strong.

I have a dealer that is fairly mod friendly and have just gone for it on my car, upgraded fueling, turbo, etc, but I also haven't had any problems with the car that would have put that relationship to the test.

Appreciate all the feedback guys. I'll call my dealership and ask about the Dinan tune. Just for clarification, when you guys say Dinan, do you mean an actual Dinan ECU tune or their piggyback? I'm currently browsing Dinan's website and came across Stage 1 ECU software & Dinan + ECU software. Anybody know the difference?

Thank you!

Go with xHP MHD combo. Easy to reflash back to stock whenever you need to, and great results with no bolt ons.

The piggyback is the one to get: https://www.dinancars.com/products/s...arts/D440-0122

I have BM3 Stage 1 / BM3 Stage 0+ M2 and is no way I could reach 3.7 & 12.06
