BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe fast tracked for 2015 release
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com If you read some of the reviews of the CLA there is some ride and dynamic issues that have been picked up by the media. BMW are pushing the Coupe to retain the benchmark for the compact segment in every way possible. The 1 Series coupe was the entry to the BMW Sport Coupe, 2 Series will be the entry to the RWD BMW with the advent of the 1er eventually switching drivetrains. BMW are fully aware of the potential of this car and indeed the Coupe , For the current hiatus BMW see the Coupe to hold the CLA and A3 at bay until the arrival of the Gran Coupe. Render:

New 2-Series Gran Coupe Concept
Isn't this redundant with the 3 Series sedan? Sure it's a bit smaller, but that would likely be because they are cutting trunk space.

The current 1-series coupe is closer in length to an E46 than an E46 is to an F30.
If the 2-series GC is an inch or two longer (not unreasonable), it's really going to be sized between an E36 and E46. Personally speaking, I would definitely be interested in a 2-series GC. Besides the M2, I find it the most exciting thing about the upcoming 2-series. I prefer (and *love*) this render: |

That render is much more appealing. I will withhold judgement until I see an actual car. I have noticed the size differences first hand, I own an E46 and my E82 is almost identical lengthwise with 2 less doors.

In my book, 4 doors does not equal coupe, despite BMW trying by putting "gran" in front.
With that out of the way, i do sometimes wish i had 4 doors for when i drive when im out with friends. Nothing unbearable to live with though. Usually gets me out of driving since nobody wants to sit on the plywood back seats.

I like the blue render as well. I am curious to see it in an 'M' flavor.

For me, the F30 has gotten too large and too expensive for what's supposed to be an entry-level sedan. I've wished for a long time for BMW to go back to its E36 and E46 roots with a truly compact sedan, and am glad that they finally greenlit the development of the 2-series Gran Coupe, even though it took Mercedes and Audi (and not by listening to their customers) to compel them to do so.

The first render doesn't look very 'coupe' like at all. The second is slightly better but still nothing along the lines of the 6-series GC.
I do like the potential for a properly sized vehicle to fill the spot originally filled by the 3-series.

I do find it amusing that apparently there is a demand for all these sub categories of cars that never even existed before.

I like the current 1 coupe but because I still have kids in the house I need 4 doors so the Gran Coupe 2 series may be a great option for me. It will be interesting to see where the weight comes. Of course there is no such thing as a 4 door coupe but from a business perspective BMW has clearly figured out they can offer essentially the same car in both 2 and 4 doors without too much new engineering and then they make their lineup even more diverse and appealing to niche markets. I doubt any gran coupe model will become a top seller but they will capture folks that want that kind of styling. I like the trend. The more options we have to enjoy our favorite car company the better in my opinion

"Fast tracked" for 2015 ? Haha... The title of this thread is a joke or a late April fool's day ? In other words, eh people wait don't buy the competition now... We'll just be following all the other brands in 3 years... On this one BMW is a fail ... They are just following others and trying to make it look like they are not... Lacking vision and planning for the product roadmap against competition ... They will surely loose a lot of sales in the next 3 years...

There appears to be sufficient market interest in these new Gran Coupe, GT and SAV (X6) body styles to support the greater variety. There is nothing wrong with giving the customer more choices.
