Battery : OEM where to get one?

Where you guys getting your OEM battery replacements?
No one seems to be carrying it.

Also, the part numbers are getting so dizzying and they kept changing them.
So far, I have these part #:

61216924023
61216806755
61212353812. (RealOem.com)
61215A40E29
61212286201 (AutoHausaz)
Which one is the latest one?

Go to autozone, and then just do the battery registration with the new one.

Are their batteries any good? DuraLast? Aren't those like rated for 3 years only?

Honestly, I went to the dealer **gasp**.

I was in for some other stuff and between the cost of the battery, labor, and registration.....it was worth it.

all the automotive batteries come from the same two companies, even the ones from the dealer and Autozone.

I'm going to need a new one this year, too. Bimmerlink says the charge is at least 80% when I drive around, but it's the original battery (2015 - 45k miles). Dealer quoted me $600 last time I was in and I passed. How hard is it to register the battery yourself with Bimmerlink?Any risk of bricking the car?

No, registering it is easy. Change, use the program (I have MHD) and you’re done. It’s really that easy.

Only place for OEM is a BMW dealer. I've never seen them available online. I'm assuming the weight makes shipping prohibitive.

If you're a BMWCCA member, many dealers will give a discount. It's still a pricey battery, but with a discount I was quoted around $210 last year. About $245 list. (Who knows with inflation, supply chain, etc.)

If you're handy, it's not hard to replace. But you do need a scan tool of some sort to 'register' the battery. Still, even if you buy a better scan tool, you're in for less than $400 if you do it yourself.

I was quoted $345, just for the battery (rated 4 years, like Bosch) by my BMW dealer.
In comparison, Costco's Interstate is around $265 (rated 3 years).

I may bite the bullet to get AuTel since it's used by FCP Euro technicians to do their day job. Its functionalities seem more professional compared to MyCarly.

I have the Schwaben scan tool. It's a rebadged Foxwell NT510 with the BMW specific codes. ECS routinely has it on sale in the $170 range, or the Foxwell is available on Amazon. I haven't registered the battery in my car, but I've used it on other people's cars. I also use it to do an ABS bleed on the brakes, and few other things. It works OK, but it can be hard to find things in the menus. The text and test procedures are lifted right out of the official ISTA tool (which I also have). Without the additional ISTA reference, sometimes the text is a little obtuse.

For just doing a battery registration, MyCarly or Bimmerlink is more than adequate, and probably a bit easier to use. Or, you could always find a free bootleg copy of ISTA and struggle with the install/maintenance of that. It's cool, but a pain to get working and keep running.

I have an Autel TPMS tool I like, but I have no experience with their scanners.

Well, I spoke to a local BMW dealer and he said the OEM ones which they carry are now made by East Penn.

I looked up their website and, indeed, they manufacture their own batteries for decades and they are now sourced by BMW for OEM batteries.

East Penn is the 3rd - but Johnson Controls owns 50% of the market by itself, Exide next, and then East Penn.

i wouldnt go by bimmerlinks charge % you more than likely will be replacing a battery that is still good. I have the original battery in my 2015 with bimmerlink it will read anywhere from 62% to 98% for no rime or reason with no starting issues I reached out to them several times regarding these readings and was finally told that the value for this is calculated somewhere within the cars systems and appears to have no real rime or reason. so I will continue to monitor and watch for signs of slow/ weak cranking or other signs of a weak failing battery. I started a thread about this about 2 yrs ago and was told be many members to replace the battery before it left me stranded. Well I dont like changing parts for no reason and never did.

Johnson Controls spun off its battery business years ago.

I’m on my original battery on my ‘16. Got a charge level low warning when I moved it in the garage over the winter. Bought the NOCO GENIUS10 and charged it up. All good, no issues. We don’t drive it as much as I’d like and still starts up every time without hesitation. I assume I’ll need a new one soon, but nice to not spend money you don’t need to yet.
