From 500,000 vehicles measured between 2000 and 2018 model years, BMW rated 8th out of 29 manufacturers for reliability: https://www.slashgear.com/consumer-r...azda-24551290/

I didn't realize that was already in progress! Really hope it works out for you. Seems 80,000 miles is around the time it happens.

I have experience with BMW quality going all the way back to a 1978 E12 530i. Along the way, there have been some impressive quality lapses on BMW's part. Even the minor lapses have been expensive. As far as 2 Series quality goes, I chose to buy mine knowing that it was a shot in the dark, and I'm okay with that.

If quality was first on my list, I'd've chosen a Toyota, or maybe a Lexus. My two Tundras just ran and ran. They only needed regular 5K servicing. I sold the second unit at 109K. At that point, it was due for a new frame due to a metallurgy issue discovered years after the trucks had been put on the road. My truck was 11 years old at that point, and Toyota said "Bring it in - let's get it done!" The new owner got a 2007 Tundra with a fresh frame; he should be good for 250K, at least.

Keep in mind if Toyota hadn't addressed the issue, the negative public exposure and potential injuries/death resulting from Toyota trucks literally separating in half while driving could be disastrous to the company.

Well to be fair, don't older E43 M3s have rear subframes that fall apart? I don't think BMW has ever owned up to that and they are still around as a company (and I realize there are a lot more Toyota trucks out there vs BMW E46 M3s)

It wasn’t just M3s, it was the whole lot of E46s, and I believe the sportier models merely put more stress on them due to being driven harder? I also think the coupes got it worse, but might be wrong.
