whine with AC on at low speed

I've noticed that when I turn the AC on in my 2016 228x drive M Sport it vibrates the seat quite a bit. Its actually uncomfortable at a stoplight. The dealer said this is because of AC demands on a V4 N20 engine. I've also noticed that at low speeds/gears there is a low-grade whine/groan (especially when going uphill). When the AC is off this sound is completely gone.

Anyone else having issues with AC vibration/noise or thoughts as to if this is abnormal? thanks

No, that shouldn’t happen. Maybe you have low coolant and that’s why the AC compressor is struggling or maybe the compressor itself is bad. Do you notice the compressor switching on and off (vibrations and engine load should go down) while you are stopped? It automatically disengages after a while to save fuel. That should help you troubleshoot further.

I have a '16 228 and second what gosi said, its not normal. Mine will sometimes make some odd valve/pressure type noises (hisses or very soft clicks) sometimes as it defrosts, but nothing that you can physically feel. How long have you had the car - what is the history (new, longtime, or gradually getting worse)?

First, is the car still under warranty? If it is try another dealer or talk with the Service Manager. If it's not under warranty find a reputable indie shop that specialized in bimmers. Try www.bimrs.org. The shop will check the ac system charge. It's not a V4!! It's an inline 4.

I have an M235i and the A/C makes a groaning/whine. It's very annoying, but it might be somewhat normal. If the A/C is off, no noise. Post a video so we can see exactly what you're talking about!

I also have an occasional whining noise when AC is on. Comes and goes. Not sure what is causing it exactly though.

From the sound in this video it may be the pcv valve. At least for me the sound is very similar.

My dealer said I needed a new blower. I was detailing the engine and discovered parts of the area were full of leaves from chipmunks nesting. An hour with a vacuum cleaner and the noise was gone.

What area of the engine bay is that in? Was the whine intermittent or a constant noise.

Did you guys figure out what the noise was. I’m pretty sure I got the same thing it happens every so often mainly at low speeds with barely any throttle, lasts about 3-5 seconds and stops if you let off the gas.
