Dinan or H&R Springs?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to lower my car a bit to get rid of the ugly wheel gap, but also don't want to obliterate my ride comfort considering it's my daily driver. I've done some research and looked through the forums and it seems like the H&R and Dinan springs are the most popular options.

However, I've noticed alot of people having an issue with the H&R set not meshing well with the OEM dampers setup so I was leaning more towards Dinan.

What do you guys run/prefer?

Appreciate any feedback!

I've got about 5 years on my Dinan Springs all year around with no complaints. Ride Quality is very close to OEM. Just got rid of the Bouncyness in Comfort mode which is what i wanted to begin with.

What Taunto said. I have had the Dinan springs for a couple years now. Still comfortable in comfort mode, but seemed to settle the car more in spirited driving. I also put in the recommended bump stops when I put in the springs. Would do it again - pretty good upgrade for the money.

Dinan with the bump stops works for me.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I was leaning towards Dinan and now I'm feeling pretty confident about my choice. I wish I wasn't so mechanically challenged so I wouldn't get gashed on the install but oh well lol

Not sure about the 228i, but on my M235i Dinan springs dropped the rear 1 inch and the front about 3/4 or so. Could be perfect for your needs. I've had the springs for about 4 years with bump stops and I've loved them.

Anyone with the dinan setup wish they went for coilovers? The dinan setup would be nice with the warranty and conservative drop but I wonder if I would regret not going for coilovers to get a stiffer, more sporty ride.

Recently had the Dinan springs put on - the car feels way more planted in Comfort mode and a little less soft. The drop in height for me is spot on - will post a pic shortly. If you do the Dinan springs - get a independent mech to install. Mine took less than 2 hours.

I just ordered a set of Dinan springs and bump stops for my 2021 m240i. There is no 2021 m240i option in the Dinan website. I just used a 2020 m240i for the springs. I hope there are no differences between 2020 and 2021 specs for the springs.

I don't think there is a difference but last I checked there was a back order. When I called the person I spoke to told me to call back on Jan. 3rd for an update on their availability. Please let us know when you receive them!

Thank you for the reply. Its website says it should ship on the 8th. I am not in a hurry. Just put on a set of 12mm spacers on all four corners. Looks much better.

Just got quoted 5 hours for install of dinan springs.... seems excessive. What is the labor time usually?

You may want to try Euro Auto Sport in SD - they did my buddys M3 (Macht Schnelle springs) with minimum fuss.

No affiliation.

I'm running Dinan springs in the rear only on my 2016 M235 6MT. I'm also running the 10mm Dinan spacer so the drop isn't overly significant. I've got about 1 finger gap in the back. I wanted the rear springs only because I always felt the springs didn't have enough rate. Dinan's are about 35% stiffer. I've never felt the M235 needed a drop in the front, especially when I'm running my wider 245/35R18s upfront which push the tires further from the body and help seal up the front gap. Plus, the Dinan front springs only add like 8% more rate. Didn't see the point.

Thanks for the info! Yeah everything I'm seeing points towards 2 hours being normal. Not sure why they quoted 5 hours. They said the front alone would take 3 hours but thats BS. I even drove my car down to them and after looking at the suspension more they doubled down on 5 hours being the best they could do. Lol.

Thanks for the tip on the shop but unfortunately SD is a bit far and I don't want to drive my car too much without alignment. Currently looking for a shop in the Orange County area that knows what they're talking about and does good work at a fair price.
