M240i performance metrics - what would the gains be?

Hello all,

I value the collective experience here and I'd like to get a few informed estimates of the performance gains that I might get from a fairly simple plan. As a performance metric only (I don't actually drag race) what's a reasonable estimate of the quarter mile and 0-60 times (or the delta) for the following:

M240i x-drive
Catted downpipe (planning on Active Autowerke's).
BM3 tune (OTS unless ill-advised)

Torque/HP at the tires if you have an idea as well.

Thanks much for your replies in advance.

That seems like it would be a more-than-noticeable increase.

Same question. I'm throwing a downpipe this Friday and going stage 2. So excited! The stage 1 BM3 OTS map was definitely noticeable. I'm expecting the same with a DP

For hard data, put it on a Dynojet 224 or 248 before you install the go-fast bits, and then put it back on the same dyno with the same operator after the install. That will provide a specific example of real world gains.

Right. Just trying to essentially get from those in the know what their data (or experience) look like. Curious as to what to expect. While data will vary, there should be a fairly narrow range of gains

Does that extra 20% come at a significant risk to the motor (longevity or failure)?

It does not as long as you get a reputable tuner

If you are familiar with datalogging, you can do so with bm3 and see how the car is reacting to the extra power.

With "20% more power with a custom map" are you referring to a map using E40+ .... as I can't see that Stage 2 93 would have that much room for improvement.

I assume not 20% more in the additive sense (NOT 26% + 20% for a total of 46%). Would be more like 31%.

The custom map will allow the user to use a higher E85 blend for more power and/or push the car more aggressively.

What I was trying to say is that you're on your own as far as performance and results go, and especially as they regard reliability. IOW, beware.

Mind you, this is a given, no matter when or where you go for advice..anywhere...anytime. This is just how it is.

If you want the best... An in car tune cannot be beat! The boxed tunes, one setting made for all, work, but isn't the best idea as every engine is different! Altitude, gas profile, temperatures, etc., will factor in. So asking a question of what to expect is arbitrary, but otherwise well documented!

I would go get a custom tune, and go stage 2.

I don't understand the fascination with OTS tunes. Then you all end up posting this broke or that broke. Work with a custom tuner, understand what he tailors to, and what he recommends, and enjoy your car. More than likely you will be running a tune better suited to your particular car than any OTS trash one can run.
