"Wait time" before installing mods?

As I've tried to convey in the title, do we/are we supposed to wait to get through the break-in period before adding any aftermarket parts?

I got a little swipe-happy on XPH's Black Friday deals and snagged an AA catted DP, Eventuri intake, and Remus non-res catback for my M240 - only problem is my car is still at the port in the EU . I've opted for the performance center delivery but the earliest date they gave me was Feb 5 (fingers crossed on someone canceling and opening up an earlier slot); fortunately, all my parts are being shipped to OH (where I live) and I'll be driving the ~250 miles from the delivery center to my parents house, and then the ~650 miles from there to my home in OH (plus the ~70 miles round trip to my buddy's house where I've shipped them).

Would I be good to throw them on when I get there or wait for a couple hundred more miles to actually clear that 1,200mi mark?

I'd put a couple thousand on it before you void your warrantys. I'm at 10k and just did coilovers and LCA + TS. Drivetrain especially I would wait a bit, enjoy the car in stock form for a bit and then you can appreciate the mods even more.

This would affect emissions, not drivetrain, right? I do understand the want for keeping it stock for a bit - and definitely wanna keep as much of my warranty in tact as possible - I just don't want those parts sitting around after I paid for them! My initial plan was to just do little by little (e.g., charge pipe and intake; then downpipe; then exhaust; then suspension, etc.,) but I didn't wanna wait until next year to try and get similar deals. I may just wait until it warms up in OH to upgrade the exhaust though; I'll already have to jack the car up to put the summer tires on and I can't imagine my complex would enjoy the cold start every morning

The best time to mod a car is soon enough after purchase that you can enjoy it for as long as possible. I'd do the 500 mile break-in on the engine, sample and change the oil, and install the parts as soon as the oil report comes back showing proper break-in (or as soon as you get passed by the local regulatory authority if they do a check at registration for emissions equipment, whichever is later.)

The second best time to mod a car is when you've found something you want to (or heaven forbid, need to) improve. First track day and the brakes fade? Don't wait. Get good pads and fluid before the next track day.

If you wait for the warranty to expire at 36k/3years or whatever it is, that's 36k/3years of you driving the car in a configuration less than what you wanted. If you think you'll enjoy this car for 100k.mi/10years or whatever...that's almost a third of its lifespan.

I appreciate this advice; its a good perspective I think I'm pretty closely aligned with. I think the only thing I'd probably wait for the warranty to expire on, or get a couple years in, would be flashing. If they'd kept the DMEs unlocked I'd probably only make it a year or so, but having to get someone to bench unlock is a hassle I think I can wait on. Haven't read much on modded 240 power figures, but I know the Supra can get 440 wheel/500 tq on just a downpipe/intake/charge pipe and BM3 stage 2. This'll be my daily so I won't be approaching full bolt-on any time remotely soon, but its nice to see how well these babies can run.

Stage 2 93 on the B58 is good for 420 WHP with just a DP. E30 is good for 435- 440 or so, and then the next step is an upgraded HPFP and Stage 2 + OTS or custom and you’re around 475-485. Not bad for two hardware upgrades! Our stock charge pipes are fine and intakes just sound cool.

To address your original concern, I ordered a JB4 and intake before my car was even on our shores. Think I installed them around 800 miles. Car is now at 58K, JB4 is long gone and the car hasn’t missed a beat.

Good to hear! I'm waiting to hear back from FTP cause I wanna get one of their painted charge pipes at some point - since I won't be tuning any time soon I suppose the stock charge pipes will suffice. But yeah, like my initial post stated, I'll have about 900 miles just to get to where my parts are, and, like you, I've already ordered a few while my car sits at the port

All logical thoughts here. Mine is similar, when i buy a car, i give it a short time to be as sure as i can that i got a solid car (no leaks, no smoke from tailpipe ect). Once i feel ok with the car, i start the process...

As I said, I'd probably do it sooner if I didn't have to worry about unlocking the DME first. I have an OTS tune on my civic right now and totally agree on the sentiment - I wish I hadn't waited so long cause hitting those few extra PSIs of boost or disabling the rev hang was so damn satisfying.

I heard. Luckily mine is 2019. Did it all in my own garage. Super easy. People tune civics?

Can't speak for anything other than the tenth gens but hell yeah they do. The Ktuner platform is pretty nice - only thing I mess with on it is boost targets (I set my own boost by gear, and have different targets for regular/sport modes), throttle padding, and rev limiters. People'll tune anything that comes with a turbo - can't say for sure what the gains are like but I think the average gain on a stage 1 was something like 30 hp / 50 tq.

Super excited to dial that up by a few orders of magnitude on the 240; unfortunately, she's still at the port in Bremerhaven.

You may have to adjust your expectations.
