brake fluid reservoir

Any tips of seeing how much fluid is in the reservoir? I can see the min and max lines marked on the outside of the reservoir but can't see the fluid inside. I've tried positioning a light source all different ways and just can't see the fluid. thanks

have you taken off the cap and looked down inside after using rubber gloves and a clean pick to remove the strainer ?

Just let your fluid get really old and dark. Way easier to see the level.

Seriously, if the level is really full, it is nearly impossible to see. The fluid edge is right at the top bend of the reservoir and you can't see the fluid line because the plastic is thicker there.

Take the cap off to get an eyeball on the level. You don't really have to take the strainer out. It will help if the level is at or below the bottom of the strainer, but at that point you should be able to see the level from the side.

What I do is take a shop light (old style, with a bulb), and put it on the passenger side of the reservoir, with the light shining through reservoir. May need to block the light with a rag to get maximum light difference and see the light through the reservoir.

just point a flashlight straight into the opening and you should be able to see the level easily

Shine a flashlight through the reservoir. When I flush the brakes to get ready for a weekend at the track I put my flashlight behind the reservoir. That way I can see the fluid level.
