Manual trans fluid change cost

My car is now 1 year old, also coming up on 10k miles.

I did an oil change at 5k at my own cost, this one will be scheduled maintenance.

I’m also considering getting my manual transmission fluid swapped at this point. I was quoted (dealership) 1.4 hr labor and $38/liter x 8 for the fluid, for a total cost of a little more than $525. Does that sound normal?

my BMW dealer charged $252.64 for the manual trans fluid change

labor $111.20

fluid $141.44

This was in 2016

if I'm reading it correctly the parts were MTL-5 (part# 83-22-2-239-654) and the amount 2-Liters

Wow, I was quoted 8 liters...my service was described as a flush, would that take more/is a flush necessary?

Thats sounds strange to flush a manual transmission. Does the manual trans even have an oil cooler ?

Flushing a DCT properly may take more fluid but thats my guess.

So typically it's just drain and replace?

just as a detail, I'm not sure if you gravity drain old fluid from an underside plug or suction it out the top at the fill hole.

Just got mine done as part of other fluid changes (LSD, engine). Total cost for manual transmission was $174. Labor was $94.50.

I switched to Redline DCTF which improved shift feel and "notchiness" a lot. Two quart each for $21.23
It was discussed here recently:

Also got charged for two BMW genuine manual trans drain plugs, not sure why two are needed?

Thanks for the help guys. They ended up using 2 liters of B1-MTF 1T 5 - 1L fluid instead of the 8 they ordered which brought the price down quite a bit. The work order states "drain and fill".

Glad to hear you got the price down!

My experience was almost identical to Scott's:

my BMW dealer charged $264.02 for the manual trans fluid change

labor $187.50

fluid $76.52

This was in 2019

the fluid was MTL-5 (part# 83-22-2-239-654) and the volume charged was 2 liters
