I dig the first render. Front end looks proper without the headlights running into the grill.

There has to be a profit margin, and there would be if they put the car into a 3-4 year production cycle and don't limit the numbers as much.
BMW is all about having the largest mode lineup lately. All these grand coupe things, blah blah blah. You don't see people asking for that? They're just guessing what people will want and more MMMarketing. If they see a demand for an M2(like how the 1M was a massive hit) they will build one.

Build an M2 with a 10,000 RPM naturally aspirated four cylinder engine that not only performs well but sounds incredible and, as an added benefit, destroys the CLA45 .... then we have something to get excited about.

BMW has enough "fat-cat" luxury cars in its lineup ... Let's get it going with some hi-tech "RAW" performance

PS: if they can build an 8,250 V8 .... Then a 10k I4 can happen!

just give me car that is super fast to around 120-130mph (i mean blistering acceleration) and make it light and nimble and this thing would toast most cars on tracks.
you are correct! the E30 did have a 2.5L 4 cylinder. I agree with ou about lightness > power. The problem with light weight materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum are that they are expensive. its cheap to sell power, specially when power attracts consumer more these days. an M2 weighing somwhere less than 3k would be amazing but at the same time neeeds to be between the $50k M235i and the (just a guess) $63k starting M4. i guess we'll have to wait to see what it'll be

In my opinion this is a lot nicer than a 435i m sport by far. I rather have this.

Whilst it would be nice to get a 10k RPM screamer of an engine with all the tech to match BMW-style, it's never going to happen.

Look at the new M3 - it get's no where near the previous gen's S65 engine RPM limit and instead basically uses a modded N55. Wasn't exactly a stretch for BMW to produce. What happened to the tri-turbo???

I believe SCOTT26 is on the marketing end of things. So while he may have the opportunity every now and then to provide some insight, I do not believe he would know anything more than most other marketing guys. He is NOT an engineer/product developer. I would take his statement with a grain of salt.

His track record has also been less than perfect, as some here will point out.

Hell yeah. I'm sorry but this M235i looks friggin awesome. If I wasn't dead set on an M2, I would consider it.

And by the way, after seeing the M2 render, BMW would have my money so fast if they made this car...

That M2 render is beautiful. I hope it materializes one day, and if it does, I hope it does so sooner in the life cycle than the E82 1M did.

OMG, de first picture the render of the M2! The front end, wide flares, those looks. Thats why i m not spending my money on a M235i. Needs carbonfibre roof.
Bmw should go ahead and make this car already. I m getting tired of waiting. They should make it as lightweight as possible. What better way to a achieve this than putting in I4 for starters... M cars are all about handeling and looks if you ask me...
Simular horsepower like merc a45 amg. 360 hp, 1400kg or less. Those are E46 M3 csl numbers...
Manual gearbox as standard, dualclutch optional, maybe some nice CSL style carbon bucketseats...
I6 or I4, who cares, i challenge you NOT to have fun in a 360hp rearwheel driven car that looks like this!!

Yeah! This morning I was looking at the greyish sky: I saw a formation of 4 pink animals flying and oinking.

His track record on details may have some misses, since he often shares info about products 'in development'; a process where things tend to change regularly, if not daily. His track record on car models is impeccable.

And for those that think an M2 and M235 can't coexist, the X5 M550 and X5M beg to differ. What BMW is doing is no different than Audi's A,S, ans RS series.
