Navigation Retrofit - Non-Tech Package Vehicles

Just got an email from BMW NA related to retrofitting navigation to vehicles without the tech package. Figured it'd be helpful for some of you on here (looked but couldn't tell if this is a repost).

Mmm.. $800 for a retrofit, good for those who are dying for one. I remember when GPS units were about $500/ea but that is going back almost 10 years ago. I wonder if anyone can purchase the 8.8" screen and actually code the new screen to work with the rest and get a full sized Nav going?

I believe there is a sticky at the top of the 2 series forums about adding the bigger screen to cars without the tech package. Of course one can purchase the actual screen for the 2 series, but I understand they are pretty expensive. The poster found that he was able to buy a used 8.8" screen from a 3 series and it worked fine, although the mount is slightly different, so if you look behind the screen, you can see that it does not fit perfectly, but it does work just fine. I see no reason why this wouldn't also work with the navigation retrofit.
