Hi All,

I have been using a USB drive plugged into the armrest console for well over a year. The drive is filled with dozens of high resolution FLAC audio files. About a year ago, one of the tracks would play for only a few seconds, then the unit would switch to the next file and continue. Then, a few months ago, fewer of the files would appear. Last week only 6 files were playing.

I assumed the USB drive was corrupt. But when I tested it on my computer the drive and all of its files were fine. All the files played.

I returned to the car and fooled around with the drive, plugging it in and out, turning the car on and off. Finally, somehow, mysteriously, the drive started playing all the files without a problem.

I'm assuming the problem was caused by the BMW audio system, perhaps during a dealer reset.

What puzzles me is that I thought that the car just read the files each time I used the USB and that the car's memory was not involved in playing the USB tracks.

Any ideas about what caused the problem and how I inadvertently solved it?

Reboot iDrive by pressing in and holding the volume button for 30 seconds.
