1st drives for M235i
By the way, Autocar UK will have their 1st drive of the M235i next week (January 22nd edition).
You can download the mag here: http://magazine3k.com/magazine/transport/) So it means that the blackout for publishing 1st drives of the car will be lifted next week and we'll see these 1st impressions in different automotive web sites... Really looking forward to this!!

I completely agree with what you are saying above, but the 1er M Coupe was done in such limited quantities, what, less than a grand in the US, that an M2 can't be justified. If you think about a fully loaded M235, I believe the one I built came in around $52k. A M2 would be a bit more expensive than that M235i price, BUT probably push right on or only slightly over the M3/M4, especially if they go lightweight philosophy with CF, etc. Too much potential cannibalization and redundancy of the higher margin M3/M4. I'm guessing most would opt for the M2 then, based on performance and that's probably what BMW is thinking. At least at this point, however. We'll see, but if they do an M2, it's probably years away, especially seeing the initial reaction to the M235i...they don't see the need for the M2 in the limited quantities they'd probably make available again like the 1er M Coupe.

Weight reduction was one of the goals of F30 compared to E90. M4 takes it a step further with CF bits. F22 is a slight mod of the E82 and weight reduction reduction costs $$$ and unfortunately there isn't much you can do with the limited budget.

I still think it is extremely stupid how you can get a 228 sport line with Oyster with Dark leather accents sport seats... but you can't on the M235i...
