Remarkable warrenty coverage
My 2016 m235i xDrive convertible is relatively new to me. Wintertime in Seattle is not rough, but occasionally requires rear defrost. Last month, push the button, and nothing happened with rear window. Ugh.. hazards of buying a used car. Then I remembered I still have some original warranty left. Scrambled to dealer who promptly texted me they can't replace the rear window.... so... they ordered me a whole new roof! I was shocked, as this was a projected 3 day repair with an expensive part. They performed the replacement last week, even furnishing me a loaner. I am super impressed with BMW! Added to my BMW F700GS motorcycle- the ultimate convertible!

Exact same thing happened to me. Bought a 2017 M240 vert a few months ago with one year warranty left. Once or twice I put on the rear defrost and didnt SEE the lines in rear window clear in the frost but didnt think much of it as the car is so small the rear window cleared up right away. Then right before xmas we had a huge ice storm. Rear defroster didnt do a damn thing and it was too thick to chip off.
Went to local dealer (not where I bought car either). They took three days to diagnose in which time the service rep was not answering calls or texts. They have a nifty thing where you can text directly to the rep. Well then the weekend happened and I still had no car and nobody was returning my calls. So I called the main number and started raising hell that I didnt know where my car was or what was being done and nobody's getting back to me so they said some pick up a brand new 330ix for a service loaner while we keep working on your car. Service rep called me finally on Monday and apologized but I had that thing for 3+ weeks. Nice car as a cush commuter, but not my M240. They replaced some module which did nothing and then wound up replacing the entire top. No charge at all. So now my 2+ year old M240 has a brand new top. Nice. |

Heh, way back in the day I took my Nissan 350Z to the dealership with something like 3 months left on the drivetrain warranty (5-years for the drivetrain, 3-years for bumper to bumper at Nissan.) I don't remember what I was there for, likely something really minor but I casually mentioned that I'd had a second gear grind once or twice. And i mean, i'm talking like 3 times in a 5 year period, when the car was ice cold.
To my surprise, they asked me to go for a drive with a mechanic to see if I could replicate the issue. I did so and (obviously) was not able to replicate the grind that happened once every year and a half of driving. But then the mechanic looked at me and said "well. You're not doing anything wrong with your driving and you've only got a couple of months left on your warranty, so we better get the car in quick so we can replace your transmission before the warranty expires!" I was floored! It was absolutely not necessary, but I also wasn't going to say no to a free transmission! Unfortunately that dealership closed a few years later....but it was eventually replaced with a BMW dealership. But not just any BMW dealership. No, the dealership that replaced it was the very same BMW dealership that years later, would end up replacing the OPs roof. Must be something in the water down in South Seattle!
