Bilstein B6 HD DampTronic Shock

https://www.bimmerworld.com/Suspensi...Drive-EDC.html

Hey guys just found this gem on the Bimmerworld website, I've been waiting on something like this for so long!! Does anyone here have past experience with the B6's? Would like to know if there is enough of a difference from OEM for me to retain EDC compatibility and go for these or go with something like a KW V2 and code out the EDC...

Thanks for any input!

Do you have these on your car by any chance? A short review would be awesome!

For what purpose?

That is, how will you be using the car to take advantage of the upgraded equipment - track, autocross, street driving, etc.?

Right now no track (might be in the future though), mostly street driving that includes weekend backroads/mountains.

I see you went with coilovers and deleted EDC. Was all that a hassle? I've read that while you can code out EDC instead of buying the EDC delete kits the struts and shocks apparently have acceleration sensors that must be re-fitted onto the new coilovers, otherwise it will just be a nightmare of codes and erratic driving.

I just had to write the check.

I left all that up to TC, and there are no issues with the car. He's been building BMW suspensions for a long time, and I just told him how I'd be using the car. More on that here: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1532418.

Look in their website and you will find options for both X-drive and RWD cars equipped with EDC...

I specifically put a link to the x-drive option since my car is... x-drive...

Whether or not the RWD option was released before the x-drive option I don't know, maybe its too new a product for me to get a review from a forum member but irregardless if you have something positive to contribute to the discussion please do.

The whole point of switching to Bilstein B6 or B8 shocks used to be an inexpensive monotube design coupled with either stock springs or, typically, with mildly/moderately lowering springs such as Eibach Pro Kit or H&R.

Monotube B6 used to work well with lowering less than 30 mm and B8 used to be for lowering 30 mm or more. B12 kit used to be monotube B8 plus Eibach Pro springs.

Now, from looking at the pictures, these are not monotube. These are typical twin-tube just like the stock shocks. It's anyone's guess which springs they were tested with and how different these would be from the stock shocks of the similar design.

ps: B6 and B8 for cars without EDC are monotube.

I'm grabbing a set of the B6 Damptronics once they become readily available. I've had great luck Bilstein shocks and these will definitely be better than the stock EDC dampers and with more sports focused control and damping.

Hi: With every BMW I've owned (8), I've switched to Bilsteins. I don't have the damptronic - they weren't available, but I used the EDC adapters, and love the new feel. I've had them for about a year.

I have a 2017 230i Xdrive - and am looking to add lowering springs to it but can't find any springs that are for 230i Xdrive specifically. I began thinking I needed to perhaps buy something similar to these so that I can use lowering springs? Anyone here can help? Let me know please - thanks!

I'd be willing to bet that the same lowering springs available for the 228i xdrive will work on the 230i xdrive. Try searching for those and contacting the manufacturers directly to confirm compatibility.

You will also have to check if the B6 shocks and struts can be installed on the 230i, assuming they can and you are happy with your cars height you could leave your springs stock and go for these instead since they are designed for stock springs.

Thanks. I am looking to lower it for sure. It's been really difficult finding out any info on springs for my car.

Did you get these on your car yet? Really interested to hear feedback as I'm thinking of doing this with Swift Springs...

you may want to look at this thread:
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=24970810

It would appear that the following members have these B6 Damptronic shocks:
Kefka
Eschmacher
GSband - post #227

I don't have any experience of the bilstein damptronics, but I think when the time comes I'll be going with the B4 Damptronic to retain a level of comfort with hopefully a superior level of damping control over OEM.

Does anybody in the 2 series universe have b6 damptronics installed on their M240i with stock springs? I'll even take a review of the passive setup. I'm wondering if anyone had them and the ride height increased. I had them on my e90 335i b6 and b8 both raised my car and was pretty noticeable. Other than that a good review would be appreciated. I'm on the fence with getting springs because I like the current ride height.

Springs dictate the ride height not shocks or struts. If you can push the rod down with your bare hands do you think your car will have troubles? Can you do the same with the springs? Not likely unless you're a gorilla.

As for the ride quality of B6 damptronics, I don't have experience but they will definitely be stiffer than stock. There will be more info in the F30 side of the forums.
