M2C v. M235i Ride Comparison
I currently own a 2015 M235i. My guess is a few of you have traded from a M235i or a M240i into a M2 Competition (not the previous M2).
How would you compare the ride (harshness, response to bad pavement, bars, holes etc.) of the two cars on (1) freeways (2) good highways (3) rough roads. Many thanks in advance. |

I own both. M2C is tough and fun. m235i is pleasant. M2C is really harsh in comparison, especially on crappy roads at low speed. You get used to it and then it feels OK, and fun, as long as you daily it but if you get back into m235i once in a while you are amazed at how comfortable and compliant it is, light and elegant in comparison. M2C is so much more a man's car.

Of course this is all personal taste, but if you have crappy roads, the M235/240 on 18's with the sport suspension is really pushing it for compliance as a daily use type of car.
Certainly not with 19's. You would need polished glass roads for that. The M2/M2C understandably is a non starter. Seth |

I have a M235i that came with the factory 19s. I do run aftermarket 18s though, but that was due to more tire options and the wheels came with tires already installed. I did not like the factory run flats that were on the 19s. I got to drive a M2C this summer on crappy roads, and while yes it is much firmer ride. I would see no reason that I could not daily drive it, even with some of the horrible roads I commute on. I drive a little over 100 miles a day for work, to give some reference.

Went from a m235i to a M2C. The M2C is much harsher. If you have choppy roads, it could be a problem. Where I live it’s mostly ok, so no issue here. As always, do a test drive to get comfortable before purchasing.

I currently own both a 2020 M2 Competition and a 2015 M235i Coupe. They are really different cars in real life. Yes, at low speeds, the M2 is a very firm ride but you feel very connected to the road; the M235 is less firm but also less connected. Yes, at high speeds, especially curvy roads the M2 excels. The M2 is much more car than the M235i. Much better steering, LSD handling, acceleration. Much better engine build -- S55 -- with track components. $10,000 more in late 2019 prices. Well worth it, but test drive both for as long as you can. You do become acclimated to the M2 Competition's ride.
