Hi so I just bought my f22 2016 with business navigation (evo) (iD4) and am want to upgrade to a 8.8 evo nav (hw 3.1) and ID6.

Now I have read up alot on this and there are bits of information everywhere, some of which contradicts.

So my questions are as follows.

I been told that if I want to keep DAB I need to find a unit with a green and yellow port. Is that correct?

Also I been told that I need a GPS emulatorr to use navigation because my telematics are not compatible with the nbt evo unit.

Also I think i read its important to have the vin of the donor veichle? Is this so i can update the maps?

I also read that if I can find one with a light blue port I can have WiFi? Would I be able use this for anything? I think i would also need to find a WiFi antenna?

I been told I will lose connected drive services is there anyway to retain this?

Many thanks in advance!

Does anyone know if you can replace the outer screen glass on these?

I was unable to confirm if my 2014 f22 was too old for this mod aka the beige font. So instead I went with this post market solution for Apple CarPlay that I’m very happy with. It looks great, the CarPlay works well and is super responsive on the touch screen. I’m very pleased.

And all the other iDrive functionality works? Do you have any pictures of the installation. This seems very compelling for the price.

Screen Brightness

I completed the 6.5 to F30 8.8 (pre LCI) on my MY16 M235i, the screen works fine but in daytime the brightness is lower than the 6.5. All of the brightness settings are max bright and still the screen looks dim on daytime. Any fix for this or need to live with it.

Thanks in advance.

How do you find out what voltage my screen uses? I have a 2015 F22 228i MSport with the small screen.

You should be fine. I had a 2015 228i and upgraded without a problem. The Lci is 230i or m240i iirc.

Hey guys. I'm doing the full 6.5 to 8.8 screen retrofit including new head unit with nav, new gps functionality/antenna sat radio on my 2014 f22.

I'm documenting everything over the next 3 months and updating this thread -

https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1660828

Any help you can offer or just to see my progress and learn is much appreciated!

From non-touch 6.5 to touch 8.8

Hi, I have gone through the posts and I am not quite sure I've understood correctly. So is there no way to change from non-touch 6.5 inch to touch 8.8 inch? Or is it too complicated? My one is 2019 F45 with non-touch 6.5 and it will be great if I can have a touch screen.

ok i answered my own question. after checking, asking and being told, this part won't work, i decided to buy it anyway and it freaking works just fine.
My car: F22 built 11/2016 entrynav on business nav (6.5") with navigation.
Part 65509385203 fits perfect, work sweet.

So I just ordered a 8.8inch display through ebay from a salvage yard for one heck of a deal for my 15 M235i production date 10/14. It's from a 12-15 320i. So I think it should work. I started looking into doing the coding and what I would need. I installed a Bimmertech MMI module for the back up camera the video feed signal is routed through the MMI and then out to the display. Through a series of dip switches on the MMI module you can change things like adding additional video inputs. Front camera, rear camera, and screen size and resolution. So I should be able to flip the position of two switches and change the video output from the 6.8 to the 8.8 inch screen. if this works no coding would be needed to change the screen size and resolution.

okay I tried the dip switches no luck the new display only showed no signal at first power on so i am guessing i will need to code for the larger screen. Love my wife she got me a veepeak obd2 reader for xmas. Tried coding a very simply change to the start up display image. Had the coding fail and was unable to restore back to saved file. Found out through bimmercode that the bimmertech MMI module has to be removed and things returned to OEM. I was able to get it to code after bypassing the MMI

My understanding is that there are at least 4 different screens to do the 8.8" update:

1) car built earlier than 2015
2) car built after but doesn't have the latest idrive (list v. large icons)
3) current idrive

Option 3 has only one kind of screen you can use that ends in 626 - other screens don't work because apparently there's a difference in voltage (8 v 12).
Option 2 has the most choices between the 2, 3, and 4 series. There is a model ending in 453 and one ending in 248 are the two most common (taken from a F30).
Option 1 is tricky to get the bigger screen. (doesn't have entrynav)

So sticking to option 2, there are basically two screens, LCI by Alpine and the other one.
Both are glossy, both are 8.8" and apparently the only difference is the tint?

I tried looking at all the threads here and in the F30 section, and it seems there is some confusion as to which is the bluer one. Some post the Pre-LCI as having the bluish tint, some say its the LCI with the bluish tint (and some say they don't see a difference).

Does anyone have photos of either?

The 248 is the older model 8.8 the 453 is the newer model 8.8 that much I know.
My screen presently does not have the bluish tint being a '16 6.5", and I'm happy to live without it. It seems there is a big jump in pricing, the older F30 screens being the cheapest, the current F30 screens about 50% more, and an F22 screen double the price of an F30 screen (the cost of the plastic cover in back).

Thanks,

Seth

on a whim I got the 453 screen, and it's not blue tinged so that answers that (shame as it was $60 more than the other which was only $170).
Installation was pretty straightforward.

pull ac vents off no tools, rest on towel sitting below so it doesn't scratch.
unscrew 2 screws with torx bit holding screen.
while trying to tilt the screen forward, press in clip with thumb and and use flat head screwdriver in other hand to pop off signal cable (by rotating the flat head to pry the plug loose).
installation is the reverse.

with bimmercode, turn on the ACC power, in the NBT 3000 and 3001 menu's adjust the resolution and brightness respectively.
When you exit and hit code it automatically reboots the HU and the screen lights up. (just have to save your presets again).

Only one question, does the screen dim with the headlights on still?

yes the screen will dim with the the dimmer for the head lights you also want to set the brightness level for daytime via the idrive menu

Thanks - I tested at night and it does dim, slightly. It's because the daytime brightness is reduced apparently.

Coming from an A/V perspective the color and brightness/contrast are off. The older smaller matte screen had a better image.
The way to perk it up would be to improve the brightness (white levels). Everything has a subtle greenish hue. You can tell when reversing and white stripes in the ground aren't white, when they were before. I can live with that.
Contrast (black levels) are fine. No need to adjust. I just don't want the image to be duller than the one before.
I wonder if this is just because its a limitation of the display and the newer ones improved each year, or some setting (not code, an idrive menu) I had adjusted and don't remember where.

yeah, learned this the hard way myself with having to remove my Bimmertech MMI to have the headunit module be able to recognized.

So if I don't have entrynav I can't upgrade with a higher resolution?

I have a 2017 M240 built 10/16 with no nav or entry in the vin identifier.

Hey I'm looking at manual m240i's right now, do you think this upgrade is still viable? It seems like all of the cars with Nav are somehow >$5k more.
I would really like some input here as I can't find much info on upgrading the m240is screen and if the process is different.

Just another person who came to say thanks you, it was an easy swap for half the price of F22 display.
