Stock/Stage 2/Stage 2+ E50/Big Turbo

Hey all!

Going to do a run down of the journey of a B58.

First: baseline numbers came out to 327WHP/406WTQ

0-60 rang in at 4.75s
No quarter mile reading unfortunately.

Stage 2:
-MST Intake
-ARM Motorsports Charge Pipe
-ARM Motorsports Down Pipe
-BM3 OTS Stage 2 93 Oct tune

Stuck at 326WHP and skyrocketed to 472WTQ an odd outcome to say the least.

Also, how the car currently sits on 18/8.5 et 32

Toyo Proxes Sport
Front: 225/40
Rear: 265/35

No spacers

The car rarely slips from a dig on stage 2, and when it does its been below 30 degrees with salt.

Huge difference in being able to put down the power.

Even though shops did not even want to mount the tires, seeing that the rear tires are WIDER than the wheelÖ handling has not suffered.

Will update once a sway bar is on the vehicle.

Looks like it had to do with low fuel.

Stage 2 numbers are botched, but TU pump is in and car is on stage 2+

TU pump is in running on E50 BM3 stage 2+ tune and with the XHP Stage 3 tune.

Car puts down the power better and can stretch its legs mid to top end.

This will need an LSD to put the power down the right way.

Post dyno if and when you get it!

How does stage 2+ compared to stage 2?

Just wanted to rant. I wanted to go your route except in the wonderful state of California we only get 91 pump gas... And so I notice, my OTS tune options does not include stage 2+ for 91 pump gas for tu pump... I can either go dorch on stage 1 or stage 2+ with 93 gas... Ughhh

Dyno numbers will be coming in the next month or so. Got a baby on the way and 2 other BMW builds that need baseline numbers; few things going on haha.

You could always go TU pump (much cheaper and does the job unless you are looking to max out Pure850 on E) and run octane booster on pump gas. Just keep an eye on what timing does.

That said, you should still be able to find 93.

Stage 2 to 2+ was almost as different as stock to Stage 1. At 2+ E50 you are looking at 47% power increase over stock.

The transmission tune did wonders as well.

Why not TU pump, Stage 2+ 93 octane map, 91 octane pump gas plus 5 to 6 gallons of E to bring up the octane level? I have run the stage 2+ 95 octane map with 93 pump gas and about 5 gallons of E in the car and have clean logs-- no timing corrections and the timing advances nicely as the car revs out.

You can do that? But at that point, wouldnt I be better off running stage 2+ e30 or e50 tune?

I have had luck doing it that way but you do what you are comfortable with. Every time I change maps and fuel mixes I do a few log reviews to ensure things look clean. I have not tried out the ethanol maps as I'm not sure I want any more power. Running the stage 2+ 93/95 maps is plenty of juice for me.

This was also my first time running E. Went with the BM3 stage 2+ E50 map. My plan is to run a tank of 93 every other 3rd tank of gas to regulate the system.

Yo thanks for the write up! Iíve been lookin to just go stage 1 but was always curious about stage 2 and beyond! Quick question OP, but how is the fitment in the rear with 265? Iíve been looking into it but worried about how it fits on stock suspension.

Fitment is aggressive; its not for the show cars, or dropping the car to the ground. This fits the meat needed to allow this light torquey car to hook, and it does.

The wheel specs are above. These are also lighter than their APEX counterpart. It was difficult to go with JDM wheels on a GermanÖ but I digress.

Here are some more photos of how the wheels poke just a hair, they do not look goofy, although I could care less about look: form/function.

Update with the M240i

Got a midpipe and single exit track exhaust set up put on to lower weight. The sound is a plus. Performance mods are all set for this year with the build.

Here is a youtube link for some clips with just the downpipe and midpipe from ARM Motorsports.

More cosmetic improvements to come.

Quick question, Did overall jumping from stage 1 to stage 2 result no gains other than torque really? Or what was the fueling problem going on you mentioned? Just curious to see if going from S1 to S2 is worth it or just doing the jump to S2+ and getting the fuel pump and downpipe + supporting mods in all at once the better move? Planning to keep 93 in the car though unless I decide to get a flex fuel sensor which I am very fond of on my F80 build. Thanks in advanced.

When dynoing stage 2, the car had about 15 miles of gas. In later discoveries, being below 30 miles will set the car into low power mode.

That can actually be seen in the power curve as it cuts off on the way to the top of the stage 2 numbers.

Stage 2+ is plenty of fun, and I actually highly recommend going with the BM3 E50 tune. Even without a flex fuel sensor, the car does a fantastic job of keeping fuel trims solid, and timing where it should be.

The car, albeit gutted, walks away from 5.0 mustangs; even a roushe charged (twinscroll) from a 40 roll.

For stock turbo and minor upgrades, the S2+ E blend maps are respectable in the B58.

That sounds like a super fun car, and I heard somewhere that when the car does hit low fuel with BMW it does cut power. Do you think if you redynoed S2 you would've seen an actual HP gain not just torque? Also I hope to see around your build sometime in chicago area it sounds like a beast!

Thanks for checking out the write up! Its a great car and lots of fun. Definitely embodies the bmw driving experience.

Will be getting dyno and draggy readings for S2+ with the E50 tune soon, keep an eye out for the post !
