The spreadsheet at the start of this thread does not show a part number for the fronts (is this intentional?), which appears to be HB765B.664.

The Hawk Performance website lists the 2014-2015 M235i but not 2016. Does anyone know if there was change for 2016 that would cause this? I wonder if this is just oversight on their part.

Just bought some Akebono Eur1880's as I have been having trouble with my Powerstop z23 set in the front and particularly them shifting forwards and backwards and making a very loud clunk on the drivers side. I have had this sometimes with the OEM set, but not to this frequency or intensity. I will report back when I get those in the mail and install them. Only going the front for now, if these work well I will probably replace the powerstops back there too.

Does the Powerstop pad come with the shim on the back side of the pad? Some pads will have the shim wrap around to the leading edges to reduce pad movement.

Yep, it has them. This really got worse when I changed rotors and endlinks, so Im not really convinced this will solve it, but its worth a shot to me.

Thanks much everyone for all the good info - glad I read this before buying pads! Just ordered a set of EBC Yellows for my 235, it's my commuter car/weekend canyon carver so looking forward to a little more braking power in the tight twisties we have here in the mountains. Will report back once I have a chance to get them installed...thanks again!

Read most of the thread, and didn't see alot on daily/street squeak. Shop is rec'ing ShopTech for street and light track, few folks here say less dust, better pad.

Anyone using StopTech have any issues with street noise and is dust less ? My stock pads are horrible for dust

My DTC-70s are capable of squeaking quite loudly. I don't like listening to them, so I brake in such a way that they almost always don't squeak. That took a bit of practice in the beginning.

I think anything that gives you better (or even passable) track performance will dust up more than a factory pad, not less. If you think of factory pads as horrible, you probably want to run ceramics on the street and then swap out for s/t better when you go to the track.

Do brake sensors work with Ferodo DS2500 and/or do I need to order new ones ? Front pads under 1/3 left, backs have over 1/2 left (is that normal wear ?) may just add fronts for now when they add Motul

Is it ok if they dont work with sensors if checking often ? (code etc)


Also with light track days, and ok temps in southern VA, can I run the Motul 660 year round ? and just change out a bit more often ?

(I won't be changing out pads/fluids etc myself, but looking for bit better performance on light track days)

Evo school is definitely light on brakes.

Track attack - are you saying you'll drive a total of one hour per day or per event? Is the hour all at once, or is it broken into sessions; if the latter, how long are the sessions? More importantly, what are the braking zones like (e.g., 145 --> 60, 90 -->35, 125 -->75). I realize you may not know yet.

I don't think there's anything 'light' about an HPDE. I've run my car almost exclusively on a handling track that has a single heavy-braking zone, and the braking components get extremely hot (as measured with brake temp paint on the rotors and caliper temp strips on the outside of the calipers). Why? 'Cause our cars have quite a bit of power and they are heavy.

If you do an HPDE, which track will you be running on?

Just keep working towards small improvements, lil more HP(downpipe helped), better tires(PS4S next) and brakes/fluids, bushings. Probably wont get into camber plates or LCA etc. I may look into StopTech lines. Gonna work towards something that improves the performance, and since I won't be switching any of this out (except fluids), I can keep on for DD.

First one was Dominion, but could do VIR and Summit eventually. Dominion has tight corners but not too heavy speeds into each, but enough.

1) Sounds like my car, without the commute. After 23 months, I've got 9.6K on it, and the mileage is almost all from going to & coming from the track, as well as a couple of trips to MI and IL to pick up extra sets of wheels.

2) My 2¢, of course, but our cars don't need more power unless you're taking them to the strip. What they need is more handling via negative camber and anything else that will enable them to turn more quickly. They need more tire, but that's only if you're prepared to change to a more aggressive street compound or manage two sets of tires. They need more heat capacity in the brakes. They also need more brake pad, but those pads need to be reasonably well-matched to the tire you're running.

2a) Most of all, what our cars need is a limited slip differential. Otherwise, we'll always be operating with a significant handicap.

3a) Don't know Dominion.

3b) VIR: big-boy track, a la the Glen and Mosport, major fun, get all the qualified instruction you can.

3c1) Summit Jefferson: haven't been on it, but from what I've seen it's very much a handling track - one very well-suited to lightweight handling cars like the Miata and the BRZ. That's not a bad thing, but with nearly two tons to sling around, it's not at all ideal for our cars, which are designed for tracks that let them stretch their legs. Think: VIR, the Glen, Road Atlanta, etc.

Ferodos have a spot for the stock sensors.

If you aren't going to track often, you may want to just stick with stock fluid - it is nearly as good for heat range, and it ensures that if you have brake issues, they will be the kind that recover with a cooling lap (or a few corners). With the Motul, you need to change it often enough that you can swap back to factory for winter anyway (wouldn't want to run Motul for a full year, and it isn't 'low viscosity' for winter in the ABS). This swap is what I do each spring and fall.

thx for thoughts, think I'll play at Dominion for now. Getting PS4S and better pads, probably DS2500, decide on Motul later, better bushings. If I was going to go LCA, wheels, camber plates, LSD to 235i, (I can't install) M2 would have been as cheap lol. Its a "drive when I feel like it" but dont want to dump $8k+ into for a few times at track each year.

The stock sensors work perfectly with the Ferodo DS2500. If you page back a ways, I have several comments on the DS2500 in this thread.
