Guy in a stock 2014 5.0 mustang gt wants to drag race

My 2 series is an automatic xdrive M235i with only exterior mods.

I plan to switch into sport plus and let the zf do the work, but should I use launch control?

Yes. Awd is your advantage and you will destroy him off the line

Yes, you should use launch control. You'll get him off the line, but if he's a good driver, (6 speed?) I think he he'll come around you if you both stay in it long enough. Coyote has more top end than a stock N55.

You have an awd car. I would use launch control, the stang can do high 12s stock assuming the driver is amazing, but a bone stock m235ix can do a bit quicker than that reliably. They can be be quick but the awd 235 should be consistently quicker.

Let us know the results! This is an easy win as long as you use the launch control. Stock 2014 GT, no problem!

Another question in addition to whether it's auto or manual, is what is the final drive ratio? The 6 spd cars could be ordered with a 3.15, 3.31 or 3.73 gear ratios. The deeper (higher numerically) cars are quicker. I've driven an X-Drive M235i and also a 3.73 equipped stock 5.0 and while I feel the 235 will get the Mustang out of the hole, with a good driver, the 5.0 would creep past somewhere between the 1/8 mile and the 1,000 ft marker. A 3.15 equipped car won't do quite as well.

It's alright boys we took it home

He was riding a stock gt manual not sure about the gr though I didn't ask.

We did 3 quarter miles (or about). Won all three used launch twice. Third race he was complaining about launch so did one without and it only shaved my time prob by like a m second or so.

So I raced an s550 gt stang with an intake and I might of had my chargepipe in. I didn’t use launch control in my xdrive m235 and still lost. I beat him off the line till about 70/80 then he was taking me on a walk. Those s550s are no joke!

The 2018 10 spd automatics are running upper 11’s, bone stock, in ideal conditions. They’re quite a bit quicker than the ‘11-17 cars.

I mean the new ones are a completely different beast. The older gen ones are ok.

When properly equipped, the new gen Mustangs are arguably a better performance car than the M235/M240. The issue I have with the new Stangs is their overall size and heft. It takes Ford (and GM with the Camaro) a lot of effort to get those cars perform. Plus, the attention to detail just isn't there. Overall, the prices are the same between the two cars and the Stang is a faster/better performing car, but the M235/240 is athletic, elegant, has German attention to detail, and is somewhat rare/different/turns heads (compared to the billizion Stangs you see daily). It doesn't take much work to get an M235/240 to hang with a Stang, even the newer, more powerful Coyotes teamed with those ill-shifting 10 speed autos. Ford/GM (they co-designed the 10 speed auto) still couldn't get it to perform remotely close to the ZF 8AT in terms of overall performance; not even the same ball game. If you want to run 11s in a 2 series, it's simply a matter of getting an X Drive ,adding a downpipe, flash tune, intercooler, and some ethanol. With that said, it's not what these cars are about.

I raced a Mustang 5.0 on the tollway yesterday, not sure if it was stock engine wise or not but the exterior/wheels/and suspension were heavily modified.

My M240i is a auto with a Dinan Stage 1.

We were going ~80 when we punched it. I pulled on the Mustang easy all the way to 150 when it gave up.

No contest.

Cost is fixed price on Dinan website. I think I paid $1399.

Classic BMW in Plano. They are the premiere Dinan BMW dealer in DFW.
