Audi vs BMW / please dont vote I'm getting a 2 series :)

Are you a die hard bimmer boy/gal? Would you consider a dabble?

Pro's / Cons?

Things to consider:

> Service
> Customer service
> Depreciation
> Reliability
> Ability to work on yourself
> Styling
> Street appeal

The specs for the two should be roughly the same.

Ok have at it.

2 series without a doubt. It's the perfect car. I had a 220d cabrio in Europe for a little bit, I couldn't find a single thing wrong with that car.

The 2-series is a pretty dull car to drive; as is the A3. Get a used Boxster I'd you really need a convertible....

main reasons I've liked the BMW over the Audi is looks, 1st-Audi front looks to me like a small mouth bass. Look at a 1982 Audi without the badges and ask anyone born in the 90's what it is??? ask the same question of a Bmr. Advantage BMW. 2nd-2series trunk space for a drop top much more practical. I can fit 2 carry-on bags and 2 tour bags sets of clubs with the top down easy, A5 no way no how. BMW wins by a mile

Audi fit and finish wins over Bmr.

Not really a fair comparison imho.

A5 vs. 4-series convertible.

A3 vs. 2-series convertible.

If I would need to pick, I think I would pick the Audi. Friend had a 2012 or 2013 S5 Cabriolet, an awesome car. Well aware that the 2.0TFSI is not a V6T, but it is still a rather good engine.

If you would have asked A5 vs. 4-series, I would have picked the BMW

that's fair enough. yes trunk space is actually something to consider,
the styling on BM's are great, but I@m liking the styling , aggresiveness of the Audi, TRUE, it's not as street smart as the bmw

good point, I could only fine a3 vs 2 series compares

reason is that the A5 (on a 14 plate) is actually a cheaper option than the 2 series

maybe the
A5 vs. 4-series convertible.
A3 vs. 2-series convertible.

is the correct class comparison

but that's me for you

We spent $62 large on an 2016 Audi A6, only to find poor quality, erratic electronics, unfixable trans performance ("they all do that"), refusal to honor the warranty for warped rotors (a known problem), and a technician telling us that he was directed to write down incorrect information on a repair order to back up their position. We dumped the car. I am NEVER AGAIN for anything VW/Audi....caveat emptor.

The 2 Series, even in xDrive is RWD biased, whereas the A5/S5 is FWD biased Quattro - win BMW. Also, look at the picture - with the BMW, the motor is over or behind the front axle and with the Audi, the motor is over or ahead of the front axle - BMW win. Some like the Audi interior more, but I am partial to the BMW. Also iDrive in the BMW is miles ahead of MMI in the Audi. We have both brands and I prefer BMW.

I've driven the 2.0 A5 before (2013?) and found it pretty blah. Exterior looks nice but not much different in driving dynamics vs e.g. a civic. The 228/230 was much more inspiring/fun drive. If you are looking for a “fun to drive” car the BMW wins hands down.

HI guy's
and THANKS !!!!!! for the input

I'm wondering if I posted this on an Audi forum, what would be the answers, would the be Audi biased ?

I did some more research on the A5 and looks like a lot of "known" trans issues.

So throwing the cat among the pidgeons

a member advised in a reply (keeping my 128 vs 2 series) that

If you value driving enjoyment the 2er will be a significant step down... I see the 2-series as a downgrade in terms of driving enjoyment...

Have any of you 2'rs changed from another BMW to the 2, or a 1 to a 2

thanks

also I like the newer a5 interior over the older ones, but (see the below side by side) I think the BM has a better interior, also the way the gearshift blocks out the controls, where as the bm doesnt

I actually just made this decision, twice. Last year I looked at a bunch of AWD convertibles, and really thought I’d end up in an A5 or an A3 (my dad has an A5 cabrio and it’s fantastic). The C300 Benz was a total disappointment. But then I drove the 2-series and it was game over.

But then I tried the M240 and decided that I’d rather have the bigger engine / better handling than the ragtop, and went that route.

Then (long story) I had to replace that car and decided to go with the best of all worlds, and now have a M240 convertible. Never happier.

We had a 2010 135i, which was a better car than the 128i we initially looked at buying. The M240i is a noticeable upgrade to the 135i in virtually every aspect. I agree with CAR Magazine in the UK that basically characterised the E82 1-series coupe as in need of a significant upgrade and an un-settled chassis (giving it 3 out of 5 rating), to their characterisation of the M240i as "the perfect 2-series if you pretend the M2 doesn't exist", with a 5 out of 5 rating.
