How about 18' wheel 245 tires all around?
Hi Guys.
Do you think it's a good idea to have 18' wheels 245 tires all around? I saw someone has 245 all around, so I was thinking to buy another set of OEM 18' wheels and put the back wheels in the front, with PPS tires? Not sure if it's good |

245 on 17x8 et40 works... et42 would be the ideal...

In my experience, the fastest and cheapest way is to engage qualified shops and/or vendors to help you navigate your way through the maze. I say this as someone who over the years and across many BMWs has bought multiple sets that were supposed to fit, should have fit, and I was just sure would fit. My takeaway from those missteps is this: thorough research is your friend. Oh, and don't forget fender-rolling as another tool that can help you get what you want.

UPDATE - just ran 245/35/19 Squared at track
Quote:
UPDATE: I just ran a square set up at the driving school yesterday and everything was fine. I purchased 18x8" 42 offset wheels and ran 245/35/18 Michelin PSS. Everything worked fine, no rubbing and the square set up had less understeer than the staggered. I do not recommend the PSS for the track, but am using because they were my original street tires and didn't want to throw them away. When these are gone I am replacing them with a Street/Track performance tire from Hankook, Toyo or Bridgestone. |

Thx for the info, considering this myself for track set. Was that w/ spacers in front, or just by themselves?

I'm about to do the same thing. Just purchased two 18x8 436M rears from a staggered set and going with square 245/35R18 all around. I realize there'll be clearance issues in the front due to the offset so I'm also getting 12 and 15mm spacers to account for that.

FWIW, I also run a 245/35/18 square setup. I've done multiple track days with no issues. My offset is 40 all around. It helped reduce understeer - the car feels very neutral now.

Are you 18x8 with the +40? That's what I'm on and thinking about going 245 up front too.

MPss in 245 is like a 235 in other brands tires.
You will probably rub in the front, depnds on the offset but a pair of spacers will take care of that. Also if you are dropped, it wont fit in the rear probably unless you drop the sidewall down. On stock ride height, i was able to fit 18x40x235 Nitto 01s which is a wide tire without much rubbing.

Bryan - When I had my 235i, for track days I ran a square setup on 17x8" wheels with the 245/40ZR-17 Hankook R-S3 (Version 2) SL tires. I don't recall the offset, but it was probable an ET40 all around. No issues with running or clearance with this setup. This was a great setup for several reasons. First, I could swaps wheels and tires front to rear. Also, the Hankooks have a super stiff sidewall, so they don't eat tires like the MPSS. Second, this setup saves about 7-8 pound per wheel. Plus, 17 inch tires are cheaper than 18s. To counter act the inherent front end push of the 235i, I ran the fronts with 2lb more pressure than the rears. I'll see if I can find a post I did several years ago with all of the details. Note - Hankook now has the R-S4 which is an update to the R-S3. I run the R-4s on my M2 and they are a great tires.

Here's the exact track setup I used on my '14 235i: 17" Kosei K4R 17x8 et42 on all four corners with 245/40/17 Hankook RS3s.
