KW V1 are fixed damping, correct? $1200 is an excellent deal on a brand new set. Surprised they haven’t sold. Much better option than BC coilovers!

Correct, only ride height adjustable.

I’ve had them listed for a while for what I feel is a reasonable price. My guess is there aren’t many people with xDrive 235i/240i vehicles looking for coilovers. It seams like most people opt for lowering springs along with the factory EDCs.

What’s funny is when companies only offered RWD coilovers, a lot of x-drive owners were interested in coilovers. Now they’re available and minimal/no interest. I have MCS 2WR dampers on my 240ix. F22 oem factory damping, even with edc, isn’t the best. Coilovers are a great suspension upgrade.

Technically, these can be used on any AWD/RWD 2 Series vehicle.

Typically, the major difference between RWD and AWD coilovers, is the length of the front strut ("shock") body that protrudes below the clamping collar of the front uprights ("knuckles or carriers").

On AWD vehicles, the front strut body is shorter, giving clearance to the front axles and cv boots. On RWD vehicles, there are no front axles protruding through the front uprights, giving clearance for the front struts to protrude further below the front uprights.

Because the front strut bodies on RWD vehicles are generally longer, coilovers designed for RWD vehicle will usually allow for greater ride height adjustability.

With that said, the vendors which have the AWD (1022000Q) and RWD (1022000F) versions of these kits listed for sale state that both kits offer 1-2" of adjustability, so there appears to be little to no difference in the length of the front struts of both kits. Apart from ride height and strut length differences - KW does not publish the spring rates of the two kits, so I cannot say for certain but, there may be a difference in spring rates between the RWD and AWD kits as the AWD vehicle is a bit heavier. Though, KW lists the AWD version as compatible with the 4cyl, AWD, 2 Series vehicles (which are obviously lighter than the 6cyl, AWD, vehicles), so there may be little to no difference in spring rates between the AWD and RWD KW V1 kits.

The rear springs and struts are identical between the RWD and AWD versions.

Ultimately, the reason this thread advertises that these are intended for AWD vehicles only is for full transparency. They are listed by the manufacture as being intended for AWD vehicles. If I were to falsely list them as being compatible with both AWD and RWD vehicles, I am taking responsibility for any exceptions a buyer may have if they purchased them thinking they were intended for a RWD vehicle.

Conclusion - If you do not mind the possible minimal difference in spring rates and want to install these coilovers on your RWD vehicle, you can certainly do so! I would also recommend purchasing aftermarket front adjustable sway bar end links to make sure the installation goes smooth.

I have an xdrive M240i. I went with the Dinan springs for 2 reasons: 1) retain EDC 2) I worry about daily driving on coilovers in New England winters with the salt we use.

NGL I might pull the trigger on coilovers but I don't think it'll be this year. I have other things I need/want to prioritize but man it's tempting because you're somewhat local. Wanna trade for an OLED gaming monitor and cash? lol

If it’s the salt/calcium solution they use on the roads up here in the north that is holding you back, I wouldn’t let that stop you. Most high end coilover manufacturers use corrosion resistant materials far exceeding what BMW uses on their dampers. One thing KW is known for is their stainless/anodized aluminum construction which resists corrosion very well. With that said, there are going to be parts of the coilover that will be made of steel, like the springs, regardless of the manufacturer. Though, these components are usually well coated with paint or powder coating.

I daily drove two Subaru STIs with KW coilovers in upstate NY for about 6 years with zero issues, and was able to sell the coilover set for a good profit after I sold the cars.

As for retaining the factory EDC, I can understand your hesitation. It is certainly convenient to control the harshness of the dampers on the fly. I will say though, like many others, I never noticed a significant difference in damper feel between comfort and Sport+ settings. And personally, I have had no remorse removing EDC dampers when opting for a set of adjustable coilovers in the past. Again, this is my personal opinion…..

Unfortunately, I am not looking for trades, and just looking to clean out my shop.
