18X9 - 255 Front Possible
Hey guys,
I ran across this thread while looking for a 18X9 Square setup https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216972 Quote:
For me, the appeal is to have a slight stretch on the rubber for fitment and better sidewall support vs the 18X8.5. Would something like this work for the F22? |

I've been researching wheel fitments for our 2 series for quite a while before I settled on 17x8.5 with 255 square for my track set up. I would be HIGHLY surprised if you were able to fit a 18x9 in the front even with some serious camber dialed in.
I believe 18x8.5 255 square with at least 2.5* camber is about as wide as we can go without rubbing. Even that is still wheel/offset dependent. I can't quite remember but I don't recall coming across anyone with 18x9s up front but I could be wrong. |

I went with 17X9 ET42 -1.9° with no spacer and a very slight fender roll up front.

I don't know, but I think it's the size of the tire that is the limiting factor (i.e. that's what rubs, whether on the inside against the suspension or on the outside against the fender or the fender liner).

The rear is 18X9½ ET58 -1.6° with a 5mm spacer and a 255/35-18 tire. The drop is 1¼" in front and 1" in the rear.

I’ve been looking at 3 different width/offset combinations to fit a 255 square setup (either Michelin Sport Cup 2 or Bridgestone Re-71R) with Vorshlag camber plates are hen the tax returns come in, and I’d like to see if anyone has tried these before:
1. 17x8.5et40 (concerned it’ll poke way too far out in the rear) 2. 17x9et42 (concerned it’ll rub in front) 3. 18x9et42 (would open up tire selection, but again could rub) How much camber would I need to make such a setup work? Would rolling the fenders help? Would it be at all streetable? |

You can fit 17 or 18 x 9 wheels with 40 series or 35 series tires, respectively. 17's with 255/40/17 is the cheaper and lighter tire/setup which is why it's the go-to over 18's. You need ET38 or lower to avoid rubbing on the strut which is why all those people with ET42 or ET45 wheels have small spacers. You will also need 2.0*+ of camber and a fender roll. It fits, but it takes a little work.
Some people claim to not need the fender roll. I think ride height plays a factor in this... The reason why ET45 is a popular offset is because you need a higher offset in the rear. 17x9 ET45 might rub on the outside fender a bit. Again, ride height and camber dependent. If you want to keep rear camber in check at like 1.5-2.0* you might need to roll the rear fenders to fit a meaty 255. Or, run a higher offset wheel in the rear. Problem with running a high offset in the rear is that the track width difference starts to impact handling characteristics and you end up with a drift car setup lol Last edited by bbnks2; 01-25-2019 at 11:52 AM.. |

It will be DD with about 2* camber, or 2.5* if I can tolerate it. |

17x9 ET 30 shod with Bridgestone Potenza S04s 255x40-17 left over from my 2008 E90. I'd love it if I could fit these wheel to my new '19 M240i xdrive. Stock wheels definitely undertired for this car and would be relegated to winter snows. Will the et 30 offset be an issue? Will it fit calculators show reasonable strut clearance with some poke, which I could live with if it doesn't look too ridiculous. The Bridgestones are also at the end of their life, so new tires are also a consideration in the calculation. Any one running a similar setup? Mods, ie fender roll, camber plates necessary for it to work? I will probably just try them on in the spring to check any way, unless the consensus is that this definitely won't work. BTW I'm partial to a meatier fitment rather than worrying about fender gap. Thanks.
