Yes, phone must be paired to the adapter. They say the car doesn't have to be running, but they do recommend it.

I code with E-sys. I do run the motor to avoid corrupting ECU's.

I installed the software just to see how far I could get. It is kind of expensive, software plus adapter, just to find out if and what works or wait in hopes future updates will unlock more features.

For my reading of the MyCarly website before I purchased the adapter and the app, I was led to believe that I would have access to code additional modules, including FEM and iDrive/CSC module for my 2 series BMW. These are the modules where I want access to the most for coding purposes.

I've had trouble reaching anyone on the support team of MyCarly. Does anyone know how to contact them/him? Alternatively, is this something that is coming soon in an upcoming update to the iPhone app? Or perhaps I am selecting the wrong car in the setup since the 2017 F22 model is not available (I am selecting the 2016 model, see attached). Please advise as I was under the impression that this access was already available.
Hi mcwinterr, What's the build date of your M240i? I've just updated my Carly Pro (iOS) and have access to the following modules on my FEB 2016 M235i:

Hmm...that's interesting. Mine had those 4 ECUs as well when first connected, but went I tried to code an item in FEM said the ECU wasn't available for coding.

I'd like to know if you were able to code all 4 ECUs?

Hi BMWZ4,

I have successfully coded the following:

KOMBI:
- Digital Speedo In Dash

FEM:
- Stop/Start Memory
- Welcome Lights Extended to 90secs
- Soft Binks Extended from 3 to 5 (indicators/turn signals)

REM:
- Door Handle Lights Come On In Reverse

CSM:
- Disabled Seatbelt Warning For Passenger Seat

I'm going from memory on these but will check tonight and update if necessary.

What is it you are trying to code?
Is the engine running when you try?
What error message do you get?

Thanks Danny. With the current Carly adapter & Carly Pro app (and my SG6 Edge), I can only code KOMBI. Carly suspected a defective adapter so they sent me a new one (received yesterday). I'll be trying again tomorrow and will post again if that was the issue.

My vehicle: 2016 235i, build month Sept/Oct 2015. And yes, engine running while trying to connect to any of those 4 ECU's. Uninstalled the app, re-installed, unpaired the adapter and paired again etc.

So really hoping it was the adapter giving me connectivity troubles.

Side note: curious if iDrive/NBT will ever be supported. I'd like to add the tire pressures to my iDrive.

Hopefully it was just a faulty adapter and you don't have any problems with the new one. Look forward to your post after you've tested.

I think activating tire pressures on NBT is supported currently, i'm waiting for my 2014 M235i buddy to come over so I can test. Unfortunately I've got NBT EVO which is not supported on Carly at present, luckily however I have the tire pressure/temp readings already active.
What I really want is to be able to deactivate ASD.

Danny, your build is roughly 7 months ahead of mine and you have tire pressures 'built-in' to your iDrive/NBT/Evo? Wonder why mine doesn't have that feature. Bizarre. Maybe a European thing...?

No, it's a Canadian thing. We have FTM (flat tire monitor). The US and I believe the UK have TPMS (tire pressure monitoring). TPMS gives you pressure readings in iDrive, FTM does not. There are advantages to both systems, the primary one for FTM is that you don't need to buy expensive TPMS sensors for every tire if you do seasonal swaps.

I am surprised that one is not supported. That is the first one capable of coding with usb from Bimmertech.

Tried my replacement adapter. Worse now.

1. Installed new adapter
2. Unpaired old adapter and paired new one
3. Deleted the app and reinstalled newest version
4. Connected to adapter
5. Selected vehicle
6. Selected Normal Speed for data transmission
7. Selected Coding
8. Get message to connect to adapterb (although I WAS connected see point 4)
9. Reconnected to adapter
10. Selected coding again
11. See point 8

And so on. Even tried it on my F25 X3. Same results. Tried with my wife's S5, same results.

I'm using SG6 Edge running Marshmellow.

I give up....for now. I need a break from having to send in all the logs. There's another new version available today that claims more FEM support.

Interesting you say that because I reached out to Bimmertech re their USB solution and the reply I got said not compatible with my vehicle due to NBT EVO.

I'm using an android tablet running 5.2 and not having any issues connecting or reading/writing to and from the ECUs. There have been 3 updates to the android version of Carly in the past week, all of which appear to have added some functionality. I have found that you sometimes have to fiddle with the connection speed and other parameters to get things working.

Thanks. Although I had tried different speeds previously I didn't this time around. I'll try again later today.

Does anyone know if the Carly adapter is purely a proprietary connection or can it also be used as a general obd2 dongle for some thing like DashCommand app on my iPhone?

Hard to say - unsure as to whether or not it would work with another application. Their Gen 2 adapter is specifically designed for use with the latest version of Carly to support F-Chassis cars. It may work for some functions, but not for others. Only way to know for sure is to give it a try. Or go to the Carly website and ask their tech support staff.

Carly uses ELM boards and can be used with other programs like Torque. But, there are also bad knockoffs out there and not all programs are supported.

Hi Sleslie,

Are you talking about the Bluetooth (Android) one?
or the Wifi (iOS) one?

If it's the Wifi (iOS) one i'm happy to try any apps for you.

Edit:
I've just seen DashCommand is £7.99 on the iOS App Store (theres no trial/lite version).
However, I can tell you that the 'Parameters' option in Carly Software is very very similar to DashCommand.

Thanks for the offer and the info. I've gone ahead and ordered it. A toy to play with my toy...
