I know I'm not e46m3lol but I was the one who sold Silvermike his Injen. I had it on mine and now have a K&N drop in.

I liked the Injen because you could definitely hear a pronounce spool and blow off. But at the end of the day I didn't want the added warranty risk of such a large aftermarket part and the sounds were starting to get a little annoying. The drop in still gives you some spool and blow off noise but it's subtle and not as pronounced.

The throttle response increase with both is exactly the same and definitely noticeable. It all comes down to taste since neither gives you any power gain whatsoever according to testing done by BMS.

If you have your hood open a lot and want that pronounced sound then go with the injen. If you just want better airflow then stock with subtle sound, then drop in.

Good luck

Its been a great intake since the first day I got it. Looks nice in the engine bay and would recommend it to anyone that is looking to get a bit more sound and power out of their N20

I have no feedback on the drop in filter as I have never ran one on any of my cars.

I did read somewhere that an aftermarket intake did not make any more power than the stock intake but that may be in a scenario where no other mods have been done to the engine. In my case I did notice that the larger turbo loves to breath so the Injen intake works perfect. When i swapped back to the stock intake I do notice that there are some weird noises coming from the airbox as if the air being sucked in isn't enough for the larger turbo that I have on my car.

Yeh I think it was BMS who ran it with a stage2 and had no gains whatsoever. Apparently the stock intake is good enough for the n20 turbo. However, I can definitely see how a bigger turbo would definitely benefit from the injen. The airflow dynamics there would just be different, where more airflow is needed.

thank you Thescout13 e46m3lol

I also did read the intake on N20 makes no extra power and sometimes does not help. But in the case of bigger N55 it will be useful. Now to see aFe, K&N or bms dropin

I had an AFE drop in before swapping to the Injen. I would say i felt better throttle response with the injen over the afe drop in. tq in higher gears feels a bit stronger as well. as for power, nothing noticeable. stock - afe drop in - injen. all feels about the same under WOT.

How does this perform on a hot summer day in traffic? Does it heatsoak and bog down the car?

I always had one in all my cars but will never feel good on summer days. The rest of the season is all good.

I've ran the car on the track with the weather being over 90 degrees and I didn't notice any issues with the cars overall response or power delivery but then again I was running c12 race fuel so I wouldn't be able to tell you if there was any difference in power with just normal pump gas.

How much did you buy it for?

Do the BMS intake or others make the same amount of "noise"

Wonder if any vendors here sell it

On the heat shield you'll need an allen key to take 4 bolts out from the back side. I can't remember what mm size though. there's also a rubber grommit you'll need to push forward and up to release the front of the shield as well. If you try to do all of this while the engine is hot, you'll have to be pretty carefull of not burning your hand on the right side of the engine. Learned that the hard way.
