Congratulations! I suspect the Cayman is going to make you want to change your signature.

Nicely loaded. Great find, assuming you bought it right.

I'll definitely do that. Had the opportunity to drive a base Cayman stripper back over the summer and it was awesome- that's when the want went to gotta have!

You will love it. I have a 17 718 BS and my wife has a M240i. Both are great cars but I think my 718 is my favorite all-time car. |

[QUOTE=Lakespeed;24181649]Thanks, so looking forward to it! Also struggled with the CS/BS choice, but the used manual market constrained options further especially at the price point I was looking at (<$65k).

Wow. Congrats on the find. Cayman was one of the cars I considered when shopping for C7 replacement. Porsche dealer didn't have anything close to what I wanted and the prices he had on cars in stock scared me away. Finally settled on the M240i. Still I'd love to have a Cayman S.
I'd really be interested in hearing your impressions of the Cayman S performance compared to the M240i. I know handling and track will give the Porsche the edge, but interested in straight line acceleration and throttle responsiveness. Test drove an Audi TTS automatic when shopping and was pretty disappointed. As an M240i owner, you know how our cars respond when in sport. Near instant response when throttle is applied. Audi always seemed to be a higher gear when I'd apply the throttle. Blipping the throttle only produced engine sounds...no actual feeling of power transferred to the cabin occupants. A shame because I loved the Audi interior and overall looks. Perhaps since your Cayman is a manual, and you are selecting the gear, it will probably be very responsive and quick. I have never test drove a Cayman automatic to compare the throttle and transmission interaction. Can't wait to hear your impressions. IMO Porsche is the "gold standard" for sports cars. |

Excellent! Like others, I am interested to read about your thoughts and experience comparing your two great rides. I love the look of the Cayman, but I am a "vert guy" so I have always lusted for a Boxster S. Maybe next time around if I can talk my wife into it.

The base Cayman with PDK I drove had similar acceleration to M240i except below 2k revs it bogged if you got on the accelerator too quick. I think the S will be better, but I'll let you know! Surprising about the Audi- they must get the quick 0-60 times on launch control. I'll report back for sure. I had a tough time choosing and vacillated between CS and BS- even harder when performance is the same. 718 BS sells with a premium over the CS now though.

I think that was the issue with the Audi I test drove. The RPM's had to be higher for the torque to kick in and be felt (having to drop it into a lower gear manually). M240i seems to get the OOOMPH lower in the RPM's and the auto seemed to anticipate the throttle input and downshift and hold lower gears longer.
Others that I've talked to about the Cayman said the power was more linear, which to me sounded like the boggy-ness you mentioned (under 2K) until the RPM's spin up. Still, the Cayman is such a nice car (and if I could convince myself to part w/ the money to buy one), I'd likely drive it like a parade car rather than "hooligan". Also, I find that there is a price point each of us has where we are comfortable driving a car and enjoying it compared to owning one and being concerned each time you take it out. I'd love to have a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, but I know if spent $300K, it would be in the garage 99% of the time w/ me wiping it off each morning w/ a diaper. I routinely go to Porsche USA and configure a Cayman. A new one is a base 718 white/black/red/yellow w/ a PDK & Bose to keep me in my comfort zone. Still a nice car, but it "ain't no "S". Your price point is about where I'd be comfortable driving and enjoying ownership. Upwards of that and I be getting the diaper ready. Best of luck w/ it going forward. Health and happiness in 2019 |

Nice. I just sold my 993 track car and was planning to get a 987.2 Cayman. But after a lot of thought, realized that I need more room to transport stuff (and a 3rd pax) occasionally which took it out of daily driver use. So I came back to BMW and am happy with my M235i so far.
Looking forward to reading about your side by side comparisons. |

Funny thing happened yesterday. I wanted to test drive a Hyundai Veloster Turbo (just to see how it compared to my JCW tuned 2015 Mini Cooper), and calculate how much more the new "N" would offer. Mini will be traded next year. I kinda liked the car (just sitting in it), wife not so much.
Learned this a while back, get a car that she likes as well otherwise, no matter how happy you are, you are not really all that happy. She said on the drive home, We should order another Mini or how about a Porsche? Was just too comical, since this thread appeared and my comments about ownership herein. So now I'm back on the Porsche USA website. There is always a low mileage 24 month lease option................ |

I didn't get offered the Porsche choice...after driving others (including BMW), she took the Mini...three friends of hers did the same, although one skipped the "S". Mini Cooper Countryman S is actually a BMW X1 with a much cooler body/interior. There is a JCW treatment. Your wife also may enjoy this relatively new model/platform in the line-up.

Congrats! As an owner of a 718 Boxster S, you will surely enjoy the car, the steering and manual trans really shine when taking the car on a backroad.
