Despite VER winning by 21 secs in a 24 lap race (seriously that's just ridiculous) he was not the big winner from today. That honor goes to RIC who just saw his chance of the 2nd seat take a huge step today. PER pushing VER off like that - last straw. Underperforming is one thing - trying to take out the 1st seat is next level...

Definitely made for an enjoyable watch. Haven’t been a big fan of the sprint races up to now but really enjoyed watching this one. Good driving & mix of strategies for sure. Hopefully more of the same tomorrow. Having the only excitement be seeing if VER can lap the entire field might make for a bit of stagnant viewing.

First lap - close call / near miss:

• Perez: four wheels on the wet track - full throttle - moving towards the side of the track;
• Verstappen: two wheels on the wet grass - two wheels on the wet track - full throttle.

That was a recipe for disaster - this could have ended badly for both.



Remember Hamilton and Rosberg colliding in the first lap of the Barcelona 2016 race. And that was in dry weather conditions. Niki Lauda blamed predominantly Hamilton for that crash (see here from 05:57 onwards):

The difference there is that Checo and Max didn't crash on a wet track while Hamilton lost control with over-driving at Barcelona '16 on a dry track and crashed into Rosberg.
