That's interesting about the friction spacer, would of thought that was something for balance issues.

When its done I will post exactly what they've done to the car. I won't know for a couple weeks after whether or not it's fixed the issue.

Mine did this TSB procedure as well. The shop foreman wouldn't let it out with just that procedure as it still had the problem after. That's when they decided to do the wheel bearings too. I suspect this TSB doesn't actually fix anything, I would fully expect it to come back on your vehicle.

Mine was in today for same. They ordered the friction spacer as well. We shall see if it works. Also had a click on the back tire....but as I feared it was a screw in the tire. $260 later my free service became not so much.

Are they doing the rotors and pads for you also? I picked mine up yesterday with fresh new brake components and the friction spacer thing. I'll snap a picture of the parts list and post it when I dig out the paperwork.

Bummer on screw in the tire. $260 is crazy. I'm a sucker that bought the tire/wheel warranty, which I think would cover road hazard also.

I just got my car back from the dealer after they had it for six days trying to resolve my clicking noise in the L/F wheel when making turns. They needed that time to diagnose the problem, get approval from BMW USA, order the parts, and perform the repair. Here is the writeup from the repair order:

"Microscopic slippage of contact surface interface between inner brake disc and wheel bearing flange. Road tested vehicle. Referenced SI B34 05 17 for noise while cornering. Removed both front brake discs, cleaned both wheel bearing flanges, and installed the friction rings. Reinstalled brake discs. Defect code: 3121993900. Labor operations: 34 11 220, 34 99 000."

The parts they listed were as follows:

34-10-6-887-529: Disc for Higher Coefficient: 341099 (Qty. 2)
36-13-6-781-151: Wheel Bolt, Black: 362010 (Qty. 10)

I have only driven the car home from the dealer but I did not hear it. I will be listening for it going forward.

I finally got mine back after 2 weeks. Other issues forced them to keep it that long that I won't go into here. They performed same service as Racerdad and so far no click. Hopefully this repair will be the ticket but will keep watch.

I'd lost track of this thread after reporting the same last September. The dealer fixed the clicking then but it has returned with a vengeance. It's due for service again next week (now 14K miles) so this info is very useful. Thanks.

Mine still seems fine after about 2k miles since the front rotors were replaced, with that friction disc added. Going to give it another two weeks and then I'll call it good, for now.

I experience the same thing every time I wash the car. If yours is doing this now it'd be interesting to know if hosing down your wheel resolves the issue temporarily like it does on mine. When I do this a ton of brake dust flows out. I usually hose it down until the water runs clear. For several days after that it drives without clicking.

Mine was clicking like a mad thing until I got it washed on Sunday. Now it's silent when moving forwards, although it still clicks a bit when backing up (e.g. off my driveway onto the road, hard right lock).

I should have left it alone, as it's booked into the dealer for service and to investigate this tomorrow... sigh...

Yep, that's consistent with my experience. Give it about two weeks and it should be clicking again. It might not be worth bringing it in to be honest, unless you want to go through a bunch of different repairs like I did.

I told the SA about this thread and the TSB, but he said he wasn't allowed to look at it, and had to investigate it independently! :\ They replaced the left front wheel bearing. Two days later and still no clicking but we shall see.

Sadly, the wheel bearing isn't going to fix it. They did that on mine. The sound came back a week or so later.

Now nearly seven weeks and still no ticking from the front left, after just a bearing swap (not the TSB). The ticking from the front right has returned over the last week or so, though. Calling the dealer again...

Sorry to hear it has come back. Mine has 4k+ miles on it since the rotor and pads swap along with the friction spacer, all good here, which honestly, I'm surprised. Quiet as it should be. I'm glad it seems to be fixed, even though it took 5 tries.

I have the same issue ever since I did a winter to summer tire change at a reputable tire shop.

I notice a clicking sound coming from the "front driver side tire" when I turn right. It comes when I'm turning right in between 25 - 50 km/h range. It doesn't bother me too much since my windows are usually closed.

I don't feel any performance issues. Besides the clicking noise. Anyone know if this is performance related issue or just a sound issue?

Seems to be a common problem. Mine too. Had strut mounts and wheel bearings done and still clicking - will ask them to do rotor fix and friction spacer next.

Waking this thread up again -- had the same procedure of "friction rings." Haven't had ticking return, but seems that there's more scrub. I'm actually growing concerned there is something just wonky about the front suspension geometry on this car. Have had it out in cold weather, and get tire scrub when turning at low speeds -- don't notice it in warm weather, I assume because the tire is more pliable when warm & just wears out the outer edge (which is further evidence about something wonky about geometry). I've had an e30M3, e46 330i ZHP, e40 M3, and NONE of them ever wore out the outside of a tire like this car. Also, none of them had freaky tire clunking when reversing in a tight turn. Something just isn't right. Has anyone found a better suspension setup that perhaps puts less stress on the front components and perhaps reduces this clicking?
