F1 2023: Austrian GP - Spielberg (July 2)

Schedule:

Circuit:

Red Bull Ring

Quote:

Spielberg
When was the track built?

The fearsome, original Osterreichring was originated in 1969 as a replacement for the Zeltweg airfield circuit. The track known today as the Red Bull Ring was more or less created over the winter of 1995-6, when Hermann Tilke was engaged to turn the Osterreichring into a shorter, more modern race track.
When was its first Grand Prix?

The A1-Ring, as it was then called, was opened in 1996, with Formula 1 arriving at the circuit a year later. Jacques Villeneuve won the race, while Jean Alesi had a spectacular crash when his Benetton climbed up the Ferrari of Eddie Irvine. Alesi’s team mate Gerhard Berger, meanwhile, used his home Grand Prix to announce his F1 retirement.
What’s the circuit like?

It’s only wee, bless it, but the Red Bull Ring packs a lot into a short lap. The first half rewards power, as the cars blast along three straights separated by a pair of uphill right-handers. But then as the drivers work their way downhill, the circuit becomes a regular toboggan ride, as the cars canyon through a series of quick corners, including the exhilarating Rindt right-hander, named for Austria’s first F1 champion.
Why go?

Race tracks don’t come much more picturesque than the Red Bull Ring, set in an idyllic natural bowl in the Styrian mountains. That makes for a pleasant environment for a Grand Prix, while if you’re after tourist attractions to visit after the race, look no further than the museum in Graz dedicated to the city’s favourite son: Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Where is the best place to watch?

One of Formula 1’s best views is to be had at the Red Bull Ring’s ‘Nord’ grandstand, based around the outside of what used to be the Bosch Kurve at the Osterreichring. Here, you’ll have a great vantage point across much of the track as it drops away from you down the natural slope of the circuit.

So on this short track I think the Ferrari's might be strong, just like last year.
But not as strong as RB.
But I've been wrong before

My prediction:
1. VER
2. LEC
3. PER
4. ALO
5. HAM

1. Max
2. Charlie
3. Fernie
4. Checo
5. Lew or Russell

Max then Charlie is very likely here as I can't see an immediate recovery by Checo from his 'downer' to be runner up to Max. Hopefully Carlos can make an impression on the Mercs without overdriving.

Checo is saying he'll be stronger and is 'looking into' RB.

I like the staggered air intake trumpets on the carb/fuel inlet system.
I believe Bruce McLaren was killed in a M8D can-am similar to this while testing it at Goodwood in '70.

Time for Perez to wise up, if he can't at least quali in front of the Mercs at Austria, RB's own track, then fighting talk is just not enough.

Talk of Alo and Lec taking Per spot. Not going to happen. Stroll may let his son go. Talk of both/either spots in AM opening up. Neither one are keeping up to the lead driver. Silly season is starting already... Personally I want Alo to get his seat. Prost/Senna all over again!

Is Albon on loan to Williams?

Is he still a Redbull driver?

Switch him for Perez mid-season. What could it hurt?

I understand he's signed a new contract with Williams and any ties with RB are all but gone but there could be a 'flexible' clause in it.

Why on earth would be go back to RB? Team Mexico have treated all their "Number 2" drivers the same - crap. Albon will be a wanted man at the end of the season and I am sure he can find a better fit that TM.

Drive like crap, get treated like crap.

I'm sure he would happily go back to Redbull for the best car on the grid if asked.

As quick as we could say Jack Robinson, he also has a bone to pick with Hamilton for those trip ups, one that prevented an Albon race win.

Would he? If you beat a dog long enough it will bite you.

And as for you "drive like crap", while I don't rate him WC material, he is better than a lot drivers on the grid *cough* Stroll *cough*

Team Mexico is built around Dirty Sanchez. Full stop. Karen Horner can protest all she wants that it isn't, but we all know the truth.

Albon is smart enough to take a seat with another team rather than go back.

Better than Stroll? You are setting a high bar there

Of course the team is built around VER, why wouldn't it be?

I don't get "Team Mexico"...what does that mean?

yeah I'd like to know too.
I guess 'dirty sanchez' is Checo Perez? because it sounds mexican and he's the only mexican?
And team Mexico...those are the mechanics of Perez?
I really have no clue...

You'd think if you had a valid point in a discussion you want to get that across, and not write down some made up riddles? I don't get it why someone would write a forumpost in this style
Or maybe he has no point and just writes down some random words, just to have us wondering, and so claim the attention of the discussion without any real meaning?

Sad attempt to wire up Max and Redbull fans. Doesn't understand they are not a super sensitive lot like hammy's.

GuidoK & Killed by Death

As far as I could read (a while back) in one of his special posts :

He said that MAX's moustache looked like the moustache from Dirty Sanchez .
From what I understood (I think) he sees MAX as a Mexican and as we know Checo is a Mexican too .

So , according to him Red Bull has actually 2 Mexican drivers .
Hence , that's why he said Red Bull is Team Mexico ...
But there's also (a double dirty meaning) from Dirty Sanchez to this => https://www.cosmopolitan.com/sexoped...dirty-sanchez/
One thing is for sure , he's not a MAX fan !

What I think about let's say , these special posts ?
It's just ridiculous and I LMFAO !

Well...I can't wait for more !

Getting back to F1 and some more info in that Wolff may be going off the rails or playing some game. According to Marko, at a meeting with the new RB boss, Wolff has tried to 'offload' Mick Schumacher onto RB and it suggests that Wolff no longer wants Mick hanging around the Merc garage anymore. So if that is what appears to be the case then why did Wolff take Mick under his wing in the first place.

Max is not impressed with the 41 wins comparison with Senna's tally he has reached because of the different generations, also I would add the far safer cars and driver safety equipment now makes a big difference. Fair point by Max but a race is still a race and journos have to make their living somehow

The weather forecast for the Austrian GP :

Well ,that looks like thunderstorms and scattered thunderstorms and that's really great for MAX again .
